Basic Candle Magic

The candle flame shares many messages from the spiritual world as the candle is doing its work!

Visually, it is very exciting to see a candle respond to your petition, or to the chanting or other type of energy work you may be pushing towards your spell.

The reading of the candle flame can be done on any type of candle, be it a figure candle or a jar candle.

REMEMBER

  • Variable factors such as a draft or even the way the candle was made will affect how it will burn.
  • Also, every person may inspire a different meaning from each burn, so approach this ritual with a clear, open mind and proceed accordingly.
  • If you need to put a candle out use a candle snuffer so that the flame goes out naturally. If the candle relights itself then it mean that your spirits do not want you to stop and something good or bad is heading your way.
  • If your 7-day candle burns faster or burns out before seven days then it means that the spell is working fast and you should light another candle
  • An uneven burn can signal that someone or something is working against you. Add more concentration and energy to the spell. (Or withdraw if you sense the resistance is too great.)

The Perfect Flame

A steady flame is what you’re really aiming for in candle magic, but don’t be upset if the flame has other objectives. See this as messages from the spiritual world, messages that are helping you achieve your success if you follow their lead.

The Candle Doesn’t Light At All

  • This means that this type of working will not work for what you need and another type of spell should be used
  • Cleansing must be done before continuing.
    • If the candle is being used in any negative way then it means that your using the wrong candle and a different spell must be utilized.
    • If the candle is being used for a positive reason then it means that you have to clean yourself spiritually to remove internal negative energy.
  • TIP: Smudge yourself and the room you are focusing in with purification herbs, like white sage or mugwort, to cleanse yourself of negative energies.

Vanishing Flame

  • Either your intent is insufficient
  • The spirit in question may disagree with your motives.
  • TIP: Sharpen your intent, rephrase your petition, question or plea and try again.

The Candle Flame will NOT Stay Lit

The work is finished.

  • A stronger opposing force has put an end to it.
  • Usually, this means that your petition or spell—whatever it may be—will not manifest.
  • On a positive note – in some cases, it can mean that the objective of the working has already been attained.
  • TIP – You should open the circle, ground yourself, and leave it be.

You had to Relight the Flame at anytime

  • This means the spirits cannot help you and the answer you seek is already determined.
  • This can also happen if you unexpectedly get the result before the candle is finished.

ADVICE: Did you add too much oil? You may need to clean and wipe the candle and try again. Rather than throw out this candle, keep going and learn from this experience.

Multiple Flames

Two or more flames on a single candle could indicate that someone is either working alongside you or against you. This indicates the presence of others, either spirits, deities, or humans, getting involved.

We have observed over the years that sometimes many flames, can equal multiple people.

Look to the rest of the candle to interpret whether this person is good or bad.

On Negative Purpose Candles

  • It could mean the target has others helping them
  • If you are trying to split up a couple and both flames stay lit, the couple will stay together.

On Positive Purpose Candles

  • If you are doing a working for attracting a lover and the second flame seems to rise out of the wax your working will be successful especially if both flames grow into one large flame.
  • The center flame is you; the ones that are not center are enemies when you are doing a positive spell.

BWC TIPS:

  • Use a pendulum or tarot to understand what else is happening
  • Take warning and get help if the following happens during the burn, as this means STRONG black magic is now on you
    • Top of Glass is Black
    • More Than One Flame
    • Black Smoke (at any time)
    • Perhaps other signs appear in the wax

High Flame

There is a lot of energy behind your work. Barriers to your success are quickly falling away.

  • it means there is a lot of power behind the spell and little resistance.
  • you are in the presence of a larger entity or guardian spirit, most likely benevolent.
  • You will see very fast results whether it is a negative burn or positive
  • The same can be said for high aggressive flames that flicker in large strokes. These tend to be darker spirits and deities, both are there to listen or aid you.

Low Flame

A small flame that flickers and bends is not a great sign in candle magick.

  • If the candle burns low it means there is a strong opposing spiritual force
  • If for a positive reason, you must clean yourself spiritually of negativity.
  • The timing of the working could be wrong.
  • Or you could be asking for an outcome that is unlikely or unfavorable in the long run.
  • If for a negative reason, the person or thing is under protection and you should burn a different type of candle to counter.
  • TIP: a cleansing and or banishing may be needed

Dancing Flame

An erratic, dancing flame signifies high energy in a spell—but also chaotic energy. There may be other wills consciously or unconsciously working against you. Watch the flame closely to see if the shape or motion reveals anything to you.

  • A large dancing flame suggests success, but with potential complications.
  • A small one means the spell may be overwhelmed by opposing forces.

Low Flame (That drowns in the wax)

  • If the small flame falters or drowns in the melted wax, that is a sure sign that your petition will not be granted at this time.

A Flickering Flame

There is a spirit or spirits around.

  • If the flame pops while flickering it is the spirit trying to communicate to you. Open yourself up to it.
  • If it is a devotional candle and it is flickering it means you are in contact with your deity and any petitions will be heard.

Flame Can’t Be Blown Out

Some rituals require that you blow or snuff out the candle. Sometimes the candle flame will not extinguish. First, it can seem amusing when you can’t blow out the candle. But then it becomes a little freaky. Take note of what this means.

  • this means the spirit does not want you to extinguish it. The same can be said if you blow it out and it flicks back on.
  • TIP: Let the spirit complete its work, something important may be in the works that you do not want to interrupt. If you are uncomfortable ask the spirit to protect the candle or ask for permission and try to extinguish it again.

The Top of the Candle Catches on fire

  • This means that the spell is working but being fought off by your guardian spirits (or the targets). The spell is usually successful – depends on the type of jar candle
  • There are obstacles, and the spirit is working hard to try to overcome these from the beginning. Look to the other signs to see if the candle was successful. The soot, flame, and glass should be read for the outcome.

BWC TIP:

  • This also can mean someone has just put a spell on you, so look for other signs or do a tarot or pendulum reading to confirm.

Other Observations

Burning Only On One Side

  • Expect only a partial response or an incomplete spell to happen. This could leave things unresolved or unsettled in daily matters. The type of candle could have been the culprit.
  • TIP: Refocus your intention, find a better candle and try the process again for better results.

The Candle Explodes

The absolute worst sign, especially if you are working with a glass candle and you are sitting near to the exploding candle!

  • Someone could be attacking you – the candle just protected you from a spiritual attack or a large amount of negative energy was sent your way.
  • The person you are attacking is protected from harm.
  • TIP: Be warned and check the spell is not reversed back to you.
