Goofer Dust is a traditional hexing powder from Southern African-American Hoodoo and conjure traditions. It is primarily used to cause harm, illness, or drive an enemy away. The name originates from the Kikongo word kufwa, which means “to die”.
You can use Goofer Dust in almost any hexing/cursing spells or rituals to inflict harm against those who have done you or the ones you love wrong. Goofer Dust is less commonly use in more extreme love spells/rituals which are more of a manipulative & forceful nature. Depending on which way you like to position what you do in magic, some people see this as protection magic, and I will leave it up to you as to how you see preventing other people from doing whatever they want to do to you.
“An easy and effective way to use Goofer Dust is to sprinkle it on the path of your enemies to cause them confusion and bad luck.” – Savannah, BWC.
- The Foot-Track Method: Sprinkled in the intended target’s path so they step on it.
- Personal Belongings: Placed inside the target’s shoes or sprinkled around the perimeter of their home.
- Containers and Dolls: Placed inside a spell bottle or poppet to inflict confusion, bad luck, or illness.
With most styles of hoodoo or rootwork, you need to have the target walk on the powder for it to be effective. Remember that anybody else who walks in the powder will also be affected by the spell.
Some old school practices say the following:
- Ritualized steps: Many formulas dictate walking backward while laying down a set number of steps—such as three, seven, or twenty-one steps—and walking away without looking back to seal the work on the very first try
- Reapplication triggers: In traditional practice, multiple applications are only required if the initial line or deployment is physically disrupted.
- A full lunar cycle: Many practitioners look to a standard window of two to four weeks (roughly 28 days) to observe noticeable shifts or results in a target’s life.
- The immediate reaction: If a target makes direct physical contact with the powder (such as it being slipped directly inside their shoes), the spiritual feedback or initial symptoms of bad luck, confusion, or sudden illness can manifest within a few days.
- Long-term progression: Because Goofer Dust targets foundational aspects like a person’s health, home, or livelihood, the ultimate outcome (driving someone completely away or causing systematic failure) is viewed as a slow, progressive decline rather than a sudden flash
100% No Fillers
BWC Graveyard Dirt is 100% pure as we do not add talcum powder, fillers, or any bulking agents. What you receive is the authentic, undiluted material, preserved at full potency for your spiritual work. This is the original and authentic version of goofer dust. It is a little bit more expensive than the other versions online, and that is because of the ingredients and the collection method of this specific dust. Still, we keep the price affordable so everybody can have an opportunity to use this powder if they need it, especially if they don’t have the time or the resources to collect the ingredients and make it for themselves.
Graveyard dirt is one of the key ingredients and it is hand-gathered from selected gravesites after careful, respectful rituals. After we connect with the spirits, ask permission, and leave offerings before collecting any soil. These practices are central to how we source and prepare the product and ensure integrity and reverence in every jar.
While we naturally keep the original Black Witch Coven version of this recipe on the wraps, you can make your own version as well. Make it on a day of Mars, where are you are working with the God of War! Sometimes it is made on the day of Saturn, especially if we are making this alongside some of our other toxic powders.
- Primary Base: Graveyard dirt is the most vital component, linking the spell to ancestral or spirit energy.
- Active Ingredients: Combined with salt, sulfur, powdered snake skin, dried lizard or scorpion remains, and ground red or black peppers.
These ingredients are absolutely in our powder……
- sulfur
- snake skin
- black pepper
- graveyard dirt – it is a ritual in itself to go to a cemetery and collect graveyard dirt …. so if you’re making this yourself, take the extra step and go and collect the dirt yourself .
- Red pepper
- Mullein
Depending on where we are in the world when we make this powder, we may also add…..
- ground bones
- ground insects
- anvil dust
… and a few of our own secret herbs and spices 😉
We do not add any filler to our powders, so you won’t find the common addition of talcum powder, which compromises 95% of all cheaper powders.
Protection
…..for those of you who are worried about protection and consequences, we added the following section. Please do a search for these products in our store..
- Latex or Nitrile Gloves: Practitioners never touch the powder with bare skin. Wearing heavy-duty disposable gloves ensures none of the powder enters the pores or gets trapped under fingernails.
- Face Masks or Face Coverings: Because Goofer Dust is ground into a incredibly fine, powdery texture, it easily becomes airborne. Rootworkers wear face masks to avoid accidentally inhaling the sulfur, pepper, or graveyard pathogens. ( it’s amazing some of us are not dead, because Goofer Dust can cause you to cough, so if you’re sensitive to any type of dust, make sure you wear a mask before opening the jar )
- Sweeping Backward & Scrubbing Down: Once the dust is packaged or deployed, the entire preparation area (altars, counters, scales) is meticulously scrubbed down.
- Disposal External to the Home: All protective items—gloves, masks, and mixing papers—are immediately sealed in trash bags and removed from the home. They are never left in an indoor trash can.
- Spiritual & Physical Baths: After handling baneful powders, practitioners take a cleansing ritual bath using neutralizing ingredients like hyssop, rue, sea salt, or blueing water to strip away any stray spiritual residue before interacting with loved ones.
- Working Outside: Whenever possible, the actual mixing and preparation of Goofer Dust is done outdoors, in a shed, or away from the main living spaces to keep the energy out of the home.
- The “No Looking Back” Rule: When physically deploying the powder in an enemy’s path, practitioners walk away and never look back over their shoulder. Looking back is traditionally believed to invite the energy of the trick to follow you home.
- Threshold Protection: To guarantee the powder isn’t tracked back into their own house on their shoes, practitioners maintain strong protective barriers at their own doors. This frequently involves keeping a line of red brick dust or cascarilla (powdered eggshell) across their own home thresholds.
