What Happens After You Release a Sigil, and How to Think About It
You drew the mark, you charged it, you burned it or put it away the way the instructions said, and now you are sitting in an ordinary room wondering what, if anything, just happened. Almost everybody asks that the first time, whether the sigil came from their own hand or arrived already alive from someone else. This page is me sharing how the mechanics look from here: what the method claims is going on, what the psychology is honestly doing, what can be said about science without taping a physics poster to the altar, and how the days feel when the paper is gone and the world has not made a speech.
What the method says is happening
A sigil begins as a sentence you could speak aloud. I HAVE THE MONEY BY THE END OF THE MONTH. THIS PERSON CONTACTS ME. THE JOB COMES THROUGH. That sentence then gets destroyed as language, letters stacked and repeats dropped until the line becomes a shape your mouth can no longer easily read, because the drawing is there to get a desire out of the part of you that argues and into the part of you that takes pictures and carries orders.
From Spare forward, chaos magick treats the everyday commentator as a poor messenger. Repeating the wish keeps the work in the front office, where doubt, bargaining, and the hourly question of whether anything has happened yet all like to live. Gnosis is the moment that office thins out. Sex, a long stare, whirling, exhaustion, the edge of sleep, or a visualization tight enough to crowd out speech can open a gap long enough for the image to drop. After that the original sentence is supposed to leave the mouth, because bringing it back is how a send gets pulled home before it has gone anywhere.
In that model two things are in play at once. Inside you, an instruction has been filed where habit, timing, nerve, and appetite are stored. Outside you, the world is being asked to grow a matching event. As above, so below still sits here. The mark is the compressed petition, and your week, other people’s weeks, and the ordinary furniture of doors and phones are the ground it has to sprout in.
When someone else made the sigil, the same model still holds. They encoded the desire and put in the first force. You become another pair of eyes and another body in the correspondence. The mark does not need your handwriting to be an instruction. It needs a clean petition, a real charge, and enough room afterward that the sentence is not being chewed from breakfast until night.
What it feels like when you are new
The first release is often a spike and a letdown in the same breath. A few seconds of heat, then an empty kitchen, no choir, no certificate, and a mind that opens a trial all by itself: that was only adrenaline, I invented that, if this were real I would already know. That trial is part of the work rather than a verdict on it. The method just asked language to step aside, and language wants its job back.
When something moves, it rarely looks like a film. You remember the email. A person you had stopped expecting answers. Money arrives in a form you could explain away if you wanted to stay unimpressed. You take a turn you would have talked yourself out of last month. Later people call that coincidence. In the moment it often feels as if the world got slightly more willing.
Sometimes nothing you can point at arrives on the schedule you wanted, and that belongs to first workings too. A vague petition gives the deep mind very little to build. A petition you only half want has a hard time growing a body. A charge that stayed in English was closer to a rehearsal. Lust of result, the daily digging up of the seed to inspect the roots, can keep a real charge parked in the front office for weeks.
The psychology, shared plainly
The psychology and the magick can sit at the same table.
Attention changes what you notice. Once a desire has been made specific, the ordinary brain starts flagging matches, which is what people mean when they talk about priming or about the filter of awareness getting retuned. After a money sigil the unpaid invoice, the extra shift, and the person who still owes you become louder objects. After a contact sigil the phone takes up more of the room than it did yesterday. That is not the entire working. It is the part that happens inside the sensorium, and it is real.
Arousal and unusual states change how a memory is written. An image held at climax, at exhaustion, or inside a long stare gets filed differently from a shopping list muttered over coffee. State-dependent encoding is a dry laboratory phrase for a thing magicians have used for a long time: what you plant in a peak tends to stick harder than what you plant in chatter.
Incubation is the other honest piece. A problem given to the back of the mind and left alone often comes back while you are washing a glass. Spare’s instruction to forget the sigil is that process with a drawing attached. The psychology says the quieter layer solves things when the front office stops rehearsing. The magick says that quieter layer is not only a problem-solver. It is a will.
There is also the simple human part. A rite makes you act like someone who has already decided. You become a little more available to the result. You answer. You leave the house. You put down the story in which the thing cannot happen. Confidence is a fine secular word for that. The below answering the above is the craft word. Either way, the change in what you will actually do is visible.
Psychology explains the retuned eye, the sticky memory, the incubated solution, and the shift in behavior. Plenty of practitioners stop there. Plenty of us have also had hits that sit a little past the laboratory door, and we keep notes instead of forcing those hits to choose a side on the first night.
What can honestly be said about science
There is no tidy institutional paper that proves a burned scribble rearranges a bank, a lover, or a date in court. A quantum phrase offered as if it were that missing paper is branding. Chaos, probability, and observer-talk borrowed from physics posters are metaphors some people enjoy wearing for a working. They are not a replication study.
What science will support, in a limited and unromantic way, is the scaffolding. Intention focuses attention. Emotion binds memory. Ritual changes state. Meaning and expectation can move bodies and decisions. People who encode a goal and then stop ruminating sometimes do better than people who obsess. Sleep and idle time help problem-solving. Social worlds answer when timing and nerve change.
Beyond that you are in the territory this craft actually lives in: results you can write down, patterns you begin to trust, and a method that was in use long before anybody waited for a university to bless it. Spare did not wait. Carroll did not wait. A notebook is still the closest thing we have to an instrument panel: date, petition, how it was charged, what moved, and what shifted on the side of the world that still has doors and phones.
How I think about the stretch after the release
I think of the sigil as a letter that no longer needs to live in the mouth. You wrote it, you turned it into a shape, you gave that shape a night it would remember, and now the letter is in the post. Standing at the window rewriting it has never made the post move faster.
“Is this real” is a question that rarely settles in the first hour. In this craft, real looks like a specific petition, a charge that was an actual change of state, and days afterward that were not spent strangling the working with commentary. Proof, when it comes, tends to arrive in the dialect of the petition: a text, a payment, a door, a change of mind.
Coincidence is cheap language for an opening that does not yet have a better word. You can use the opening and stay sharp. You can also miss it because the night was supposed to look like theatre.
A sigil someone else charged is the same machine with a first engine already running. The lines do not have to be yours for the instruction to be live. The first charge can be left to work. The mark can also be fed by looking, redrawing, sex, visualization, blood, or moving the same image into an object. The mechanics stay the same.
The days after, as they usually go
Most people do better when they write the working down once and then return to the below: the call, the application, the room that has to be walked into, the rest of a week that still contains dishes and daylight.
When the itch comes back and the original desire will not leave the mouth, a smaller working for something that can be wanted this week gives the first mark room to drop. That is free belief. It is how the seed stays in the dark while the appetite still has somewhere honest to stand.
When nothing moves after a stretch of time that matches the size of the petition, the sentence is usually the first place worth looking. Vague wants make vague marks. A charge that stayed in language stays close to rehearsal. A keeper interviewed every night never really gets the dark.
When something does move, the note is the education. First-timers often lose it by dismissing the hit as luck or inflating it into a conversion story. The useful middle is quieter: the method did a job, and now you know what that job felt like from the inside.
That is the whole way I hold it. A desire leaves English, takes a body as a mark, gets planted in a state the everyday mind cannot easily edit, and then asks the world for a match. Psychology will explain the retuned attention and the change in what you do. The craft claims more than that, and it earns the claim in results rather than in a feeling that the ritual looked expensive. The night you burn the paper will not settle the question. What answers, and how much room the sentence is given afterward, is how this work has always settled it.
Exercise.
MEDITATING ON THE SENSES
This exercise further strengthens your vision while working on your concentration as your eyes are open. You are also training the unconscious areas of the mind, plus training and developing the dormant areas of the mind. You may also be able to start to enter into the astral plane.
The BWC Sigil was created as a power sigil, for the collective benefit of all who choose to tap into its energy. While you do not have to think about the purpose of the sigil at this time, know that you can draw into the sigil for protection, knowledge, success, and occult wisdom. Extremely empowering

Let’s begin:
- Place the BWC Sigil (seen below) in front of you.
- Relax and calm your mind.
- Gaze at the image for 2 minutes.
- Now, instead of visualizing the image with your eyes closed, visualize the image with your eyes open for 2 minutes. Your attention should be fixed upon the image to where you do not observe anything else in your environment.
- Now, close your eyes and visualize the image for 3-4 minutes.

Before you mentioned this was a protection sigil I would stare at it for a long time. Interesting.
