The toxicity of pennyroyal oil is well recognized, with many documented reports of adverse events and fatalities. In humans, consumption of 10 mL of the oil has resulted in moderate to severe toxicity, with case reports of fatalities 1 to 2 hours after consumption of 15 mL.

There is some evidence that pennyroyal oil can cause abortions by causing the uterus to contract. But the dose needed for this effect could kill the mother or cause her life-long kidney and liver damage. Pennyroyal leaf tea seems to be able to start menstruation, which could also threaten a pregnancy.

Use pennyroyal in healing spells and sachets. It is said that pennyroyal in your shoes will protect you from tired feet. Include pennyroyal in blessings before traveling and spells designed to protect a traveler.

It helps relieve blockages of the throat chakra and helps heal an aura damaged by addiction. Use in spells to protect your psychic energy from the negativity of others and to strengthen, cleanse and repair the aura. Use also to protect against the evil eye and for spells for removing the evil eye.

Pennyroyal is most useful in penetrating the mysteries of death and rebirth, and is an excellent herb to use when gaining knowledge of reincarnation. Pennyroyal may be used to bath the body of the deceased prior to embalming. Its Magick helps one’s spirit move in a positive direction on the path toward rebirth. Pennyroyal is associated with the High Priestess card of the Tarot. Its energy works well with Pearls. Albertus Magnus used Pennyroyal in conjunction with Lapis Lazuli. Folklore tells that Pennyroyal should be scattered upon stormy seas to calm them. Magickally, Pennyroyal can be used to calm many types of “stormy” situations.

Pennyroyal is an herb of peace and protection when worn or carried. It is placed in the shoe when traveling to prevent weariness and to add strength. It wards off evil and aids in business negotiations. Pennyroyal will cause a quarreling couple to quit fighting and prevents seasickness. Tied on the bedpost, it sharpens the brain and wits. Pennyroyal kept in a bowl brings peace to the household. It is used to bathe the body of the deceased to bring a peaceful transition to the next life. Seamen scattered Pennyroyal on rough seas to calm them. You can carry Pennyroyal on board ships to prevent seasickness.

In Southern Traditions- Pennyroyal is widely thought to be a powerful Guardian and to Ward Off Evil. To break a hex, a jinx, or a curse, some people mix Pennyroyal with Nettle and Graveyard Dirt and sprinkle it on their hair and clothing for one night. Pennyroyal is also said to bring Tranquility to the Home, to Help Solve Marital Problems, and to bring Good Luck in Family Matters. For this reason it is an ingredient in Peaceful Home Oil. Some burn dried Pennyroyal LEAVES as a clearing incense in the home, along with Blue Candles, or they keep a bowl of the herb on their home altar at all times.

Pennyroyal is used to ward off evil and also to remove curses, bad luck or a jinx. It will also break an hex so its powerful stuff. Because it wards off evil and other negative energies using Pennyroyal in your home will bring a feeling of peace and calmness. I normally sprinkle a few drops into an oil burner or onto a display of pot pourri. I also find Pennyroyal very cleaning for my aura so a drop in the bath is great for restoring balance, removing negativity and energising.
