“Amy or Amii (also Auns, Hanar, Hanni) is a demon described in demonological grimoires such as the Lesser Key of Solomon (including Thomas Rudd’s version), the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, and in the Munich Manual of Demonic Magic; as well as Jacques Collin de Plancy Dictionnaire Infernal, Amy is described as a President, appearing initially as a flame before turning to a human form. He is claimed to teach astronomy and liberal arts, give familiars, incite positive reactions from rulers, and (according to all sources except the Munich Manual) reveal treasures. According to all sources, he rules over thirty six legions of demons. According to Johan Weyer, he was of both the order of angels and potestates (powers), and holds the futile hope of returning to the seventh heaven after twelve centuries. According to Rudd, Amii is opposed by the Shem HaMephorash angel Ieialel.”

Demons to Assist with Divination
In my personal deck of cards, I have given Amy the 3 of Wands from the Minor Arcana. This is because of the card’s association with foresight and the implication for knowledge here. However, in trying to stay consistent with the Occult Tarot deck I will give him the 6 of Pentacles. As always with this thread, my objective is to pick one card to provide daily wisdom while hoping one of our adored demons will respond to me.
The Pentacles are usually associated with the element of earth. The element of earth has to do with the interactions that mankind have with their outside or physical environment. These interactions result in variations between human beings’ health, finances, work, family, wealth, property, et cetera. These are the tangibles that arise from the way that man moves within the environment that he is placed in. Therefore, the subject of the reading has to repress their materialistic urges in order to become successful.
Pentacle Archetypes are often focused on materialistic things. They can be found putting emphasis on work outcomes, career trajectories, and other achievements. In the best of cases, they can be generous or philanthropic towards others. They are obsessive and can even become possessive, greedy, egotistical, or over-indulgent. In the 6 of Pentacles they have to curb their materialistic urges because these can prevent them from realizing greater successes even if their obsessions with wealth have resulted in previous accomplishments.
The 6 of Pentacles is a tarot card that belongs to the Minor Arcana. I call this card the “Charity Card” because of its association with generosity. When it appears upright in a reading, it is usually interpreted as giving, charity, sharing wealth, or receiving. When the card appears reversed in a tarot reading, it is taken to mean unpaid debts or one-sided charity. It is evident that this card is greatly associated with the material aspects of human existence and the element of earth judging from its interpretations.
The 6 of Pentacles depicts a wealthy man wearing regal robes. He hands out coins to paupers who are kneeling at his feet. He holds a balanced scale on his left hand to imply equality and justice. The card portrays a state of being financially secure and indicates that one can use their wealth to benefit less privileged individuals in the society. Alternatively, it can mean receiving as seen in the case of the beggars. It therefore shows that the fortunes of an individual can change and everyone is equal in the grand scheme of things.
The Demon
Amy is a fallen angel and another of the 72 spirits that were ensnared by King Solomon in a brass vessel. He is the 58th of the 72 Goetia demons and ranked as a Great President of Hell. He has dominion over 36 legions of lesser demons that do his bidding. Despite Johan Weyer reporting to the contrary, many accounts say that Amy wishes to return to heaven after 1,200 years and ascend to the seventh throne which is the highest honor reserved for angels. Before his fall, he belonged to the angelic order of powers.
This demon goes by many other names such as Avnas, Amii, Hanar, Auns, or Hanni. You cannot pinpoint his exact origins because of the dearth of information on him from early Graeco-Roman mythology or ancient Middle Eastern accounts. However, his existence within the Ars Goetia lends credence to the notion that he is of Jewish origin. He can however be found in renowned grimoires such as the Dictionnaire Infernal and the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum although the former has no depiction of him.
Amy is described as appearing as a huge flaming fire. He can then take the shape of a human being at will where there is nothing monstrous about his looks. He is described as having perfect knowledge of multiple subjects and astrology. He is also capable of providing the conjuror with perfect familiars to assist in magic. There are no mentions of whether Amy is benevolent, malevolent, or apathetic towards mortal human beings perhaps indicating that inexperienced conjurors should give him a wide berth.
Note – Amy is capable of revealing treasures that have been hidden by other spirits.
The Message
Do I stand to benefit from familiars? Is there someone hiding something from me?
I believe that Amy is a powerful demon whose potency can be used by the conjuror to make them a competitive advantage. In addition to teaching the conjuror important subjects for magic such as astrology, he can provide familiars to help do their bidding. If the 6 of Pentacles appears in a reading, I will begin path working with Amy while focusing on his office of teaching the liberal sciences and astrology. Alternatively, I can ask him to reveal to me hidden knowledge that can help me to get ahead in life. These, he can provide in a few days to weeks time.
