Grimoire based information

Valefor is also referred to as Malephar, Malaphar, or Valafar within other text.

Valefor is a day demon with the ability to make one’s hands faster, their eyes keen, and their mind sharper.

Valefor is said to have dominion over ten legions of lesser demons.

Valefor is the sixth demon mentioned within the Ars Goetia of the Lesser Key of King Solomon. He is mentioned within other major grimoires such as the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum.

He is described as a mighty duke with the body of a lion and the head of a donkey. Other accounts posit that he appears as a lion with the head of a human male. His human form is that of a man with green skin and white wings although the reports on this are inconclusive. It is also unclear whether he takes up human form at the behest of the medium or of his own volition. He is an expert thief who is adept at thievery because of his dexterity and speed.

He is colloquially referred to as the duke of thieves because his office is to create a good rapport among thieves and to tempt people to steal. Valefor is also able to accompany the conjuror in all acts of thievery although he is an untrustworthy accomplice who is known to trick people.

Occult healing techniques and medical magic are also among his abilities which can be used to great success by the conjuror. He can also teach his healing techniques to the conjuror if they so wish.

He is said to serve as a good familiar to the conjuror until they are “caught in the trap”. The implication here is of a deceitful demon who must be approached cautiously and only experienced personnel are advised to try his conjuration. Like the other goetia spirits, he can be summoned successfully and his abilities leveraged to provide the summoner with an advantage in their magic.

HISTORY

There are no discernible connections between this demon and Middle-Eastern or Graeco-Roman mythology. Like the other goetia spirits however, he is a fallen angel having lost his place in heaven after war broke out. It is only plausible that the demon was previously a popular pagan god whose name was Latinized with the advent of Christianity during the Middle Ages and condemned as a resident of hell. In so doing, his original identity was lost in history.

The Pseudomonarchia Daemonum states the following regarding this demon: “Valefar, alias Malephar [Malaphar], is a strong duke, comming foorth in the shape of a lion, and the head of a theefe [or “barking”], he is verie familiar with them to whom he maketh himself acquainted, till he hath brought them to the gallowes, and ruleth ten legions.

The Ars Goetia states the following regarding this demon: “The Sixth Spirit is Valefor. He is a mighty Duke, and appeareth in the shape of a Lion with an Ass’s Head, bellowing. He is a good Familiar, but tempteth them he is a familiar of to steal. He governeth 10 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, which is to be worn, whether thou wilt have him for a Familiar, or not.

WHEN TO SUMMON VALEFOR

This demon can be summoned to assist mostly in clandestine activities because of his speed and guile. He is also dexterous and can assist the conjuror in their thievery although this is inadvisable because of his treacherous nature. Valefor can also be called forth so as to impart his abilities upon the medium thereby making them expert thieves.

Alternatively, his skills in occult magic can be used to heal and he can also teach these skills to the summoner.

Items Required:

  • Sandalwood incense
  • Copper / Tin items
  • Dandelion leaves
  • The demon’s seal

Ritual Time: This demon is strongest between May 11th and May 20th as well as between April 15th and April 19th.

PRECAUTIONS

  • This demon is very potent despite the approachable and affable demeanor presented in manifestations. It is therefore necessary to accord him the utmost respect during rituals.
  • The conjuror should also take care to protect themselves from otherworldly energies by mentally picturing a protection circle and entering it.
  • Over-reliance on the demon’s power should also be avoided as it may affect other parts of one’s life.

Steps:

  • The conjuror should find a quiet place and prepare through power meditation.
  • The demon’s seal is to be worn both on the breast and tied around the waist.
  • The candle should be lit and placed at the center of the altar while the dandelion and copper / tin items are liberally scattered atop the altar.
