In Islam and other Jewish traditions, Azrael is referred to as an Angel of Death. He became very popular after the emergence of Islam and according to Islamic scrolls, he holds the fate of mortals and can transport the souls of the deceased after death.  Azrael should not be confused with the fallen angel, Azazil. Other spellings of his name are Azriel, Azrail, Ezraeil, Azraille, Izrail, Azrin, Izrael, Azryel, Ozryel, or Azraa-eel.

According to Hebrew tradition, the name Azrael can be translated as “whom God helps”. He is similar to Abaddon and carries out the will of God. This angel is constantly recording the number of births and erasing those that died.

Descriptions:

Azrael has different descriptions in various religions. In one of the descriptions, he is portrayed as a giant with four faces, and four thousand wings ( other sources say he has twelve wings). His body consists of tongues and eyes that correspond to the number of people living on earth.

He has a body that stretches across multiple levels of Heaven. His first foot is placed in the fourth (or seventh heaven) and the second is on the razor-sharp bridge that divides paradise and hell. According to Islamic teachings, he has 70,000 feet. He is also depicted holding a huge sword that symbolizes his power and abilities as a warrior. In other depictions, he holds a cord which he ties around the necks of those he dispatches.

Tales of Azrael and the Death Principle

Death is the end of a particular stage of life. It represents a transition to another life. There are many beliefs about what happens to the soul of man after death. One of such is that the Angel of Death carries it to Heaven or drops it into Hell.  When a person is about to die, he appears before him and drops a venom into the individual’s mouth. As soon the individual stops breathing, he captures the soul.

Azrael has the ability to separate the body from the soul because he was the angel that brought the sand which was used in man’s creation. Although an angel of death, he doesn’t know the time of death of any individual. When it is time for a particular individual to die, a leaf with the name of the individual is dropped from Allah’s throne. Azrael reads the name and has forty days to capture the soul of the individual. When a good man dies, he is welcomed with the sweet smell of paradise but the wicked is welcomed by a company of demons that pull and torture his soul.

Working with the Angel of Death

Do you want to work with Azrael? If yes, why? One of the major reasons why people work with the Angel of Death is to lay a death curse on their victim. Naturally, man is afraid to die because he is uncertain of what would happen after his death. There are people who invoke the Angel of Death to seek the knowledge of death. When this knowledge is attained and understood, the fear of death would be transformed into inner peace.

Invocation of Azrael

The purpose of this ritual is to awaken the hidden knowledge and power in you. When that is done, the fear of death would be completely erased.

Suitable Time: Night

Items Needed:

  • Black candle
  • Red candle
  • Incense (myrrh preferably)
  • Black robe
  • Bell

Procedures:

First stage:

  • On the night of the ritual, take a bath before wearing the black robe.
  • Set up your altar or ritual space.
  • When everything is set, begin by ringing the bell.
  • Light the black candle
  • Call upon this spirit by reciting the following lines:

Lepaca Kliffoth!

 Azrael!Azrail!Ashriel!Azaril!Azriel!Izrail!

 Hear me, divine messenger!

Shadows and phantoms!

Rise up from the cemetery pits and some forth at my calling!

You, who separates the soul from the body and brings the taste of deadly venom!

Come from the abyss of Darkness!

Angel of Death!

Spirit of many faces and thousands of wings!

Guide of the dead souls!

You, who leads mortals to the Other Side!

Who approaches with the spectre and creatures of the night!

Hear my calling!

Light in me the black flame of death, the essence of the Black Dragon!

Lead me to the brink of death and life, so that I could taste both and immerse in

their ecstasy!

Show me Death so that I could know Life!

Tear down the black veil of Ignorance which covers my eyes!

Second stage:

Visualize the appearance of a black angel with twelve wings and a sword in his hand. He shall cut off all the parts of your body and everything that binds you to the world.

Avoid any form of distracting thought. At a point, you will feel an emptiness in you and when that happens say the following words:

The dark fire of the Black Dragon is burning now in me!

I am the shadow, the phantom, ready to leave the earthly existence!

Spirits of Darkness, become my companions in my journey to the realm of the dead!

Angel of Death!- lead me to the Other Side!

Third stage:

Lie down with your arms crossed on your chest.

Visualize how your astral body becomes lighter and lighter.

At this point, Azrael shall lift you to the other side. While on this journey, recollect all your past memories. Think about all your past fears, worries, failures, and weaknesses.

Visualize as they fade away. At this point, new strength and determination shall be evoked in you. When that happens, you can return to your normal consciousness.

Take off your black robe as a symbol of removing the past.

Turn off the black candle and light the red one which is a symbol of a new life.

As the flame burns, your vital force shall arise and you will be filled with power and inner wholeness.

Say these words:

I am awake from the deadly slumber and I begin a new life, With the fire of the Great Red Dragon!

So it is done!

Ho Drakon Ho Megas!

Spend the next few minutes meditating on this flame awakened in you. When you are satisfied, end the ritual.

Conclusion

Invoking the Angel of Death is highly discouraged especially for those who suffer from psychic disorders or emotional trauma. For such individuals, instead of finding the knowledge and peace they seek, they might end up inviting trouble, fear, and pain into their life.

You don’t have to agree, nor do you have to like it, but that doesn’t make it untrue.
No one called him a demon; he is a psychopomp.
In fact, the article specifically refers to him as the Angel of Death.
He’s referred to in several necromancy books.

Sorry, but I strongly disagree with this depiction of Azrael. He is an Archangel, there is no danger in calling him. He is not malevolent. This really pisses me off!
