General Uses of Salt in Rituals
Here are some great ideas on using salt every day!
- Take a pinch of consecrated salt and spray it at the threshold of your house to banish negative entities from your environment. Also, it will keep away people with bad intentions from your home. Put some salt into your pocket before going for a job interview or while going for an examination. It will banish ill luck and bring you good luck.
- When you return home after a busy day, you can put some salt and soap on a washcloth. Scrub your feet and body with this mixture to remove the harmful vibrations accumulated throughout the day.
- If you want more money, place some salt, laurel, rosemary in a cloth pouch at the entrance to your apartment or home. You can also place it at the entrance to your workplace or store to attract customers.
- If you are being haunted by evil entities that prevent you from sleeping at night, surround your bed with a thin layer of salt. This layer will protect you from negative energies and grant you cool sleep.
Salt is a common ingredient in African-American hoodoo spells in which magical protection from evil and breaking enemy work (especially “live things” or tricks under the skin) is accomplished through the employment of ritual baths and floor washes.
When the intention of a hoodoo spell is primarily protective, salt may be used alone or combined with ingredients like saltpeter and black pepper.
For more aggressive spells against enemies, such as Hot Foot and Crossing, salt may be added to red pepper, sulphur, and bluestone.

Protection of the Human Aura with Salt
The human aura is our vital defence against other energies that exist on this planet that we cannot see with our eyes.
The human aura is an electromagnetic field that surrounds our physical body and comprises of a vibration of different energies. This topic is complex and we could discuss the aura at length but for the purpose of this document we will conclude with the idea that to protect ourselves from unseen energies that exist within our dimension the human aura is our shield and first line of defense. If the aura is full and working to its best potential then the protection it offers us is very strong, however should the aura become weakened then we are susceptible to attack from other negative energies that exist within this planet
that science is yet to investigate.
The aura is naturally strong and in normal circumstances does not need to be looked after or strengthened but under certain conditions it can become weaker. A full aura extends outwards from the physical body in an egg like shape to around 4ft. We are essentially encompassed inside this egg like shape rather like a baby chicken in its egg shell.
How can I strengthen my aura?
The aura can be strengthened by leading a lifestyle that works in harmony with the
physical body. Some examples of how to strengthen the aura are listed below:
1stly – Drink plenty of clear fresh water.
SALT IS THE EASIEST & CHEAPEST PROTECTION TOOL
- Sea salt is essential, bathing in it and sprinkling it around your house and bed
seems to offer additional spiritual protection. Daily use of sea salt baths or
showers helps to remove negative containments from the Aura. - Swim in the OCEAN for at least 20 mins
- Purchase some natural sea salt, sprinkle around all doorways in your property and around your bed not forgetting the front and back door, this stops all types of negative energies from crossing into your home. Fine sea salt is best as you can’t see evidence of it on the carpet. Remember to replace after the house has been cleaned on a weekly basis.
- Salt Lamps – Colored with natural minerals, such as iron, these lamps are wonderful examples of the natural wonders that can be found within the earth. Each lamp is created with a large piece of Himalayan rock salt that has had its core hollowed out, and has been fastened to a sturdy wooden base. This allows for the small light that comes with it to be placed within the piece of rock salt, creating a warm, pink glow that is great for creating a soothing atmosphere in whatever room it is placed. Further, as these lamps heat up it is believed that they create healing negative ions, which are believed to help balance your electromagnetic field, purify the air, and generally help create a sense of serenity.
OTHER AFFORDABLE TIPS
- Exercise opens the airways and promotes the flow of oxygen in the blood also helping cellular reconstruction.
- The thoughts you think have more power over you than most people are aware. It is essential to gain control of your mind and train you self to think only positive thoughts. Meditation is the best and most useful method of learning this in my opinion.
- Crystals are also very useful, black oynz and black tourmaline are renowned to help with negative energy. Carry them around in your pocket or in a handbag or use them as an amulet and wear it around your neck. Again your intent is the most important thing, if your intent is such that the crystals you have help provide you with protection then they will.
- Wearing protective amulets has been used since the middle ages as a method of spiritual protection and many new age shops sell amulets, the pentagram is a common choice. Potential amulets include gems, especially engraved gems with protective symbols.
Salt Spells
Although any form of salt provides intense spiritual and magical protection, sea salt is believed most potent.
The Hoodoo tradition favors kosher salt because it has been blessed. In a pinch, any salt may be used although the closer it is to its natural state, the less it has been processed and essentially tampered with, the more magical protection and power salt can provide.
Salt Spell Quick-fix Circle
A potent quick-fix spell, particularly valuable when spiritual danger suddenly threatens to overwhelm you. Cast a circle using salt or black salt. Sit within the circle until you feel that it’s safe to come out.
Salt Around Your Candles
It is very common to create a salt circle on the outside of any candle magic. Most commonly this is done with plain table salt, but the idea is to protect the magic within the salt circle.
Salt Bath: Basic
Add salt to the bath to simultaneously provide spiritual cleansing as well as create a powerful psychic shield. For a quick fix, just toss handfuls of sea salt, as many as desired, into a tub of running water. Stir to dissolve and soak.
Salt Scrub: Basic
Bath salts are added directly to the water; salt scrubs are applied with either a gentle or a vigorous circular motion to the body. The oil causes the other ingredients to cling to the body, even after rinsing. This is an extremely powerful way to create a cleansing, protective shield.
- The basic formula is one cup of salt to one half cup of oil, however you may wish to play with these proportions until you achieve a desired texture. This produces a fairly substantial quantity: store in an air-tight container such as a mason jar. Salt scrubs will last indefinitely, providing water doesn’t get into the container.
- Add more oil if you’d like a gentler scrub. Finely ground salt is less abrasive.
- Castor oil is the most protective carrier oil and should be added to the scrub, however it’s extremely thick and doesn’t always blend well. Add other carrier oils and play with proportions until it pleases you.
Spiritual Bathing
In Hoodoo tradition, Spiritual Bathing is one of the common practices. Most times, a spiritual bath is recommended prior to performing other magickal operations. This is because the witch is expected to be both physically and spiritually clean.
There are other times when your thoughts seem not to be clear to you and you constantly feel overwhelmed with problems. In Santeria, the first step to take in such a situation is to cool your head by having a spiritual bath.
You can perform a spiritual bath for any reason. Some common examples include:
- For cleansing and purification,
- To clear blocks, negativities, release emotions that block your aura,
- To bring money, success and new opportunities,
- For fertility,
- For love attraction,
- For protection and uncrossing hexes,
- For relaxation and many more.
EASY Salt Water Cleanse Ritual
You will need:
- A large bowl
- 3 handfuls of sea salt
- 3 litres of water
Preparation:
Take the Pan and put the 3 handfuls of salt with your right hand, then you will fill it with 3 litres of water. Normally I put 1 liter of boiling water and 2 litres of cold water to get the right temperature.
Then pronounce the following prayer (as this is HOODOO you say psalms, but you could modify to suit your spiritual contact):
“Dear God, in the name of your Lord, please bless this water with your holy spirit, so that all negative energies and spirits move away from my body to touch it.”
Now it is pronounced after the Our father:
Our Father,
who art in Heaven,
hallowed by Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
Amén.
NOTE – Depending on your spiritual and religious beliefs you can adjust the prayers, but be sure to keep the core of the message, since it is the most important part.
After taking a bath or shower,
Say the following prayer:
“Dear God, in the name of your Lord, please clean me with this holy water and Holy Spirit clean all the negative energies, and evil spirits of my body and my life now”.
Then say the Our Father again.
Then dry your body with a towel without rinsing the salt. For best results leave the water to dry naturally in your body, leaving the salt water on your skin all the time that it is possible.
