In the picture above, we are burning a red figure candle in front of the statue of Santa Muerte. This is our current, Black Witch Coven love altar, which sits on a specific side of our temple room here in New Orleans.
Santa Muerte is also associated with healing emotional wounds related to love and relationships. Love candles can be used to seek healing from past hurts or to improve emotional well-being in matters of the heart. In addition to attracting love, these candles might be used to ask for protection in relationships, ensuring that love is nurtured in a safe and positive manner.
The remains from the candle can be interpreted to be seen as the feedback from the spirit, and in this case from Santa Muerte. Black Witch Coven does not see any message as particularly terrible, especially if it isn’t a slamdunk our petition hasn’t been fulfilled as yet. We take it as the spirit guiding us on what we need to do to achieve our goal. And this is the power of witchcraft. This is the power of being spiritually connected and working with the spiritual world.

In figure candle spells, the appearance of a tall wall of wax remaining after the candle has burned can provide meaningful insights into the spell’s outcome and the nature of its influence.
Here’s a detailed interpretation of what a tall wall of wax might signify:
Interpretations of a Tall Wall of Wax
- Obstacles and Resistance:
- Barriers to Success: A tall wall of wax can indicate that there are significant obstacles or resistance to the spell’s desired outcome. This suggests that achieving your goal may be challenging and may require additional effort or adjustments to overcome these barriers.
- Need for Extra Work: The presence of a substantial wax residue might signal that more work is needed to break through these obstacles or to address underlying issues that are impeding progress.
- Unresolved Issues:
- Lingering Problems: The tall wall of wax could represent unresolved issues or aspects of the situation that are not yet addressed. It might suggest that certain factors are still blocking the intended result and need to be tackled before the spell can fully succeed.
- Blockage in Energy Flow:
- Energy Stagnation: This wax formation might reflect a blockage or stagnation in the flow of energy related to the spell. It could indicate that the energy is not flowing freely towards your goal, necessitating a reassessment of how the spell was performed or the intention behind it.
- Strength of the Spell:
- Intensity of Impact: In some interpretations, a tall wall of wax could be seen as a sign that the spell’s influence is strong but not yet fully realized. It may suggest that the spell is potent and has significant power, but the results are still in the process of materializing.
- Symbolic Representation:
- Manifestation of Intent: The tall wall of wax might symbolize the physical manifestation of the spell’s intent. It could be reflecting the way in which the spell’s energy is being expressed or how it is being blocked or contained within the magical work.
Additional Considerations
- Context of the Spell:
- Purpose and Focus: Consider the specific intention behind the spell. If the spell was meant to address a situation with many obstacles or to overcome resistance, the tall wall of wax might be a direct reflection of these challenges.
- Candle Quality:
- Candle Factors: Ensure that the wall of wax is not due to the quality of the candle. Poorly made candles can burn unevenly, leaving unusual wax formations. Check the candle’s composition and wick to rule out these factors.
- Observations and Feelings:
- Personal Intuition: Pay attention to your own intuitive feelings and observations during the spell. Your personal insights can provide additional context for understanding the meaning of the tall wall of wax.
- Follow-Up Actions:
- Addressing the Issues: If the wax suggests obstacles or unresolved issues, consider taking follow-up actions to address these problems. This might involve performing additional spells, making changes in your approach, or taking practical steps to overcome the identified barriers.
Practical Tips
- Reassess the Spell:
- Review and Adjust: Reevaluate the spell’s procedure, intention, and focus. Make any necessary adjustments to address the obstacles and enhance the effectiveness of the spell.
- Clearing Blockages:
- Additional Work: Perform additional rituals or spells aimed at clearing blockages or addressing specific issues that might be causing the resistance.
- Patience and Persistence:
- Allow Time: Understand that some results take time and effort. Be patient and persistent in your work, and keep an open mind about how to address the obstacles represented by the wax.
EXAMPLE CASE:
David wanted his ex-girlfriend back. She was a very independent girl who was an escort. While he didn’t try and change her occupation, she was wanting to get out of the industry for multiple reasons. He could provide her with a better lifestyle, but she would have to be open to allowing him to be that person. Because of her own childhood trauma, she was very resistant to let go of the control or perceived control he would have over her.
David began lots of magic, specifically candle magic, so spirit could guide him on what he should do, and what is possible. However, nearly all of the figure candles finish showing tall walls of wax remaining on the backside of the candle.
WHY?
What It Means When There Are Walls of Wax Remaining on the Backside of a Figure Candle
- Obstacles or Resistance:
- The presence of wax walls or residual wax on the backside of the figure can indicate resistance or obstacles that are in your way. These could be internal obstacles, such as doubts or fears, or external factors, such as people or situations that are hindering your progress.
- The wax is metaphorically “clinging” to the back of the figure, suggesting something that is holding onto your goal or intention, preventing it from flowing freely or manifesting as expected.
- Unresolved Energy or Negative Attachments:
- Wax on the back of the figure could represent negative attachments or unresolved energies that are still influencing the outcome of your spell. This could be a reminder that there’s unfinished business, lingering emotions, or unresolved conflicts that need to be dealt with before your intention can fully manifest.
- For example, if you’re using a figure candle for healing or unblocking energy, the wax on the back could signify that there are still unresolved issues (either within yourself or externally) that need attention before you can fully heal or progress.
- Slow Manifestation:
- A wall of wax could indicate that the results of your spell may not manifest as quickly as you’d like. This is often a sign of slow or delayed progress, meaning that the energy you’re working with is still in the process of being absorbed or transformed.
- The backside of the figure is symbolic of the hidden or behind-the-scenes aspects of your goal, which may take time to materialize. Just as the wax doesn’t immediately melt away, the manifestation may require patience or a change in approach.
- Incomplete Transformation or Process:
- If the back of the figure candle shows substantial residual wax, it could point to an unfinished process. The figure itself may be a symbol of the person or situation you’re working with, and the wax could represent something about them (like emotional baggage, stubbornness, or resistance to change) that is not being fully addressed or released during the spell.
- This is a reminder that there’s a step missing or a block in the process that needs to be acknowledged before the work can be complete. This could mean revisiting your intentions or taking additional steps in your spellwork to address any underlying issues.
- Unseen Forces or Influence:
- Another interpretation could be that unseen influences or forces are at play. The wax wall can symbolize something or someone in the background that is impacting your spell or situation, possibly in an indirect or hidden way. These might be influences that are not immediately apparent but are still affecting the outcome.
- This could be a person or a situation that you have not fully considered or have yet to confront. In this case, you may need to go deeper into the matter to address the root cause.
What to Do About It
If you encounter walls of wax on the backside of a figure candle, there are a few things you can do to address the energy and ensure a more successful spell or ritual:
- Work on Clearing Blocks:
- You might want to incorporate additional block-clearing work to dissolve whatever is causing the resistance. This could include cleansing rituals, energy healing (like Reiki), or spells that focus on breaking obstacles (such as road opener spells or unblock spells).
- Herbs like cinnamon, bay leaves, sage, or peppermint are often used for breaking barriers or overcoming obstacles. You might add them to your candle ritual or burn them in incense.
- Reassess Your Intentions:
- If the spell feels stuck, it’s worth reviewing your intentions to ensure they are clear and focused. Sometimes, a vague or unclear goal can result in slow or incomplete results. Make sure your goals are specific and attainable.
- It might also be helpful to write down your goal, meditate on it, or perform a manifestation spell to solidify your intention before trying again.
- Return to the Candle:
- If the figure candle has not completely melted or has residual wax, you may need to re-light the candle or perform another ritual to finish the work. This could be a signal that the spell is still in progress and needs more time or effort.
- Consider using a cleanse and release ritual before relighting the candle. You can use salt or other purifying elements around the candle to clear the space and allow the energy to flow more freely.
- Address Hidden Issues:
- If there are unresolved emotional issues or hidden factors contributing to the resistance, you might need to address those more directly. This could mean engaging in personal shadow work, seeking emotional healing, or releasing any past trauma that might be holding you back.
- If the figure candle is representing another person, it could be an indication that they have emotional baggage or resistance that is affecting the spell, and additional work might be required to address that.
- Consult the Spirits or Demons:
- If you work with spirits, demons, or deities, you can seek their assistance to help clear the obstacles. For example, demons like Paimon or Azazel can help with removing resistance and clearing the way for progress, while Bune can bring financial stability and success.
- Call upon them to help break through the barrier or to show you where further work is needed.
- Removing bad luck through spells and rituals is a powerful way to clear negative influences from your life, and the right demons can be essential allies in this process. Demons like Lucifer, Paimon, Bune, Astaroth, and Zagan can help you
Case study suggestion.
After all of this time with consistent candle magic returning tall walls of wax, I believe that David should move on. While he could continue trying to manipulate her free will, she is only becoming more angry and more hostile towards David. So ultimately, he could potentially drag her back into a relationship, but this relationship would be hostile. David should accept the messages from the spiritual world, that this relationship is not meant to be, and is fraught with issues. If he really wanted her, he should give her some time, and perhaps do some cleansing with both on himself, and on her and circle back to her down the track and see if she has changed her idea on what she wants for herself and her life.
Summary
In summary, a tall wall of wax in figure candle spells often indicates obstacles, resistance, or unresolved issues related to the spell’s goal. It suggests that further work may be needed to address these challenges and facilitate the desired outcome. Consider the context of the spell, the quality of the candle, and your own intuitive insights to interpret the meaning accurately and take appropriate follow-up actions.
