The ritual knife, often referred to as an Athame, is one of the most important tools in many magical and occult traditions. It is primarily a symbolic and energetic tool rather than a practical one. While some traditions keep the blade blunt, others prefer a sharpened edge depending on the nature of the work.
In witchcraft and ceremonial magic, the ritual knife (Athame) is used to direct energy, cast circles, invoke or evoke spirits, and cut energetic ties. It represents the element of Air and the directed will of the practitioner. It is generally not used for physically cutting objects, but rather for working with energy and intention.
In black magic and baneful practices, the ritual knife takes on a more commanding and aggressive role. It is used to direct harmful or coercive energy toward a target, cut spiritual connections, or enforce the practitioner’s will. In these contexts, the knife becomes a tool of power and control rather than just symbolic direction.
In LaVeyan Satanism, the ritual knife is traditionally referred to as a Sword. Anton LaVey emphasized its practical use in ritual as an extension of the practitioner’s will and authority. While it can be used to direct energy and focus intent during rituals, LaVeyan Satanism places less emphasis on the symbolic or spiritual nature of tools compared to witchcraft or ceremonial magic. The sword is seen more as a functional instrument for Greater Magic rituals rather than a sacred object requiring consecration.
Be advised that every person will have a different way of using or treating this blade, and this is in alignment with the left-hand path, as we do what we want.
Because different traditions approach the ritual knife in distinct ways, we offer a variety of styles to suit different practices from traditional Athames used in witchcraft, to more aggressive ritual daggers suited for baneful or Satanic work.
An important tip:
We’re not trying to tell you what to do with what you buy, but here is how we treat our magical tools around here.
The blade, knife, Athame, whatever you want to call this, should only be used for magic. This means that if you have a knife that you consecrate from the kitchen and that’s totally cool, you should never take it back to the kitchen to cut your piece of meat or sliced cheese. When you finish using your blade, it should go back to a special spot where only you use that magical tool.
Another tip that we follow is that we don’t use the same blade for conflicting purposes. An example is that Savannah will have a specific blade she uses for her left-hand path rituals and things like pact creation, and a different blade she might use for health and healing spells.
Some of us in black magic practices will stab items and burn them in the flame, so we have specific stainless steel daggers that will take the heat of the flame.
We recommend you start off getting something affordable and then see what you do in your own practices and then upgrade your tools from that point.

5 out of 5 stars   Â
Got this as a birthday present for someone else, but the knife looks even better in person than it does in the pictures!!! It flips out super smoothly, and the contrast between the grey of the details and the grey in the background is super cool!!
