“Everything flows out and in, everything has its tides, all things rise and fall. The swinging of the pendulum is evident in everything; the degree of momentum to the right is the measure of momentum to the left; rhythm compensated. ”
Kybalion
This principle explains that there is always an action and reaction, a stepping forward and going back, a rising and falling. This is revealed in the inhaling and exhaling, the birth and decay of worlds; in the rise and fall of nations; in the events of the universe, the suns, the worlds, humans, animals, the mind, energy, matter and finally also in the mental states of men.
Based on this principle everything is subject to constant rhythmic change. So nothing can remain forever as it is. Meanwhile, there is a right time for everything and this goes with its personal rhythm thus saving a lot of resistance. This principle allows us to find the right balance with the polarities.
The Hermetic Approach
The Hermetic grasped this principle because they recognized its universal application. They have also discovered certain means of dealing with the effects of this principle in themselves by the use of suitable formulas and methods.
Although they cannot solve the principle, they cannot cancel its effect, but they have learned to avoid to a certain extent, their effects on themselves, which depend on the mastery of the principle. They are able to apply this through the mental law of neutralization.
Most individuals who have acquired some measure of self-control do so to some extent, more or less unconsciously; but a Hermetic master does it consciously and with the help of his will he achieves a degree of balance and mental strength that is hardly credible to the masses swung back and forth like a pendulum. This principle allows us to find the right balance with the polarities.
