In this post, I’m going to cover several aspects of binding spell-casting. This post will share information regarding appropriate oils, a spell which will be very easy for the average person to cast with success, and some suggestions for spirits or demons you can work with to help you with your binding spell/s.
Even if you’re on a budget right now, I’m going to teach you how to create a binding oil yourself, so you’ll have every tool needed to conduct this spell easily.
Naturally, we do this type of spellcasting ourselves. Some witches in our coven choose a non “against will” method, more related to the first spell I share with you below. Other witches such as myself prefer to go all out and work with Demons to bind against somebody’s free will. It is really up to you as to what you choose to do regarding your own comfort level in magick.
Shut Your Mouth: Beef Tongue Spell
What is a binding spell?
A binding spell is a form of magic used to restrict, limit, or prevent someone or something from causing harm, exerting influence, or interfering with a situation. The intention behind a binding spell is to bind or restrain an individual, energy, or behavior, effectively stopping them from having an effect or continuing with their actions. These spells can be used in various contexts, including interpersonal relationships, protection from harmful energies, or halting unwanted behavior or situations.
Binding spells are not about causing physical harm or controlling free will in a malicious sense; instead, they focus on restricting or preventing specific actions, behaviors, or energies that are negative, harmful, or disruptive. So I don’t think anyone who is practicing general witchcraft, to be concerned about ramifications or karma 🙂
Still, if you’re a black magic witch like me who is not concerned about protection or ramifications from the spell-casting, you may want to step up your binding work. You can create a binding spell or Ritual, that is quite restrictive on the target, and which will definitely effect that persons free will and energy. This is performed in conjunction with working with specific spirits and Demons.
Common Purposes of Binding Spells:
- Stopping Harmful Behavior: Used when someone’s actions are causing harm or disruption in your life, and you wish to stop them from continuing their behavior.
- Example: A binding spell to stop a toxic person from interfering in your relationships or business.
- Limiting Influence: To prevent someone from influencing you or others negatively, either through manipulation or control.
- Example: A binding spell to limit someone’s power or influence over your decisions.
- Protection from Harm: To prevent negative energies, entities, or situations from affecting you.
- Example: A binding spell to keep someone from sending negative energy or performing harmful actions toward you.
- Neutralizing a Situation: When a situation feels chaotic or out of control, a binding spell can stop things from escalating or spiraling further.
- Example: A binding spell to stop a difficult or contentious situation from becoming worse.
- Breaking Unwanted Habits: A binding spell can also be used on yourself or someone else to stop harmful behaviors or addictions.
- Example: A binding spell to break a negative habit or addiction.
Basic Components of a Binding Spell:
Binding spells typically involve several common elements and tools, each contributing to the spell’s effectiveness:
- Candle Magic: A common practice in binding spells, especially when using black candles (symbolizing banishment and protection) or white candles (for purity and neutralizing negative forces). You may inscribe the name of the person or situation you’re binding on the candle.
- Symbolism: Objects or materials related to binding include ropes, strings, knots, or any other items that represent restriction. Often, these materials are used to physically tie up or restrict something or someone in the spell.
- Paper and Ink: Writing the name of the person or situation you’re binding on a piece of paper is a common part of the spell. The paper can then be folded or tied up to symbolize the restriction of that person or situation.
- Binding Oil or Herbs: Magical oils like Binding Oil are often used to anoint candles or objects to enhance the spell. Herbs such as cloves, cinnamon, or black pepper are common in binding spells, as they are thought to help restrict or neutralize negative forces.
- Visualization and Chanting: The practitioner focuses their energy and intent while performing the spell. Chanting or affirmations are often used to direct the energy of the spell, such as:
- “I bind you, and you cannot harm me.”
- “Your actions are stopped; your power is contained.”
Types of Binding Spells:

1. Set Your Intention
- Clearly define what or who you wish to bind. Be specific about the behavior, situation, or influence you are trying to restrict.
2. Gather Your Tools

3. Prepare Your Space
- Light your candle (if using one) and create a focused, calm atmosphere. You can cast a circle or protect your space with any traditional protection method.
4. Write and Focus

- As you write, focus on your intention to bind them. Visualize them being restrained or their actions being stopped.
5. Apply the Oil
- Anoint the paper, candle, or objects with Binding Oil. Focus on the idea that the oil will enhance the spell, helping to lock the energy and prevent further harm or interference.
6. Perform the Binding
- Tie the paper or item with string or thread, symbolizing the binding.
- While tying it, chant or repeat a prayer, affirmation, or incantation to reinforce the spell.
Example chant:

7. Close the Spell
- Allow the candle to burn down safely (if using one), or bury the bound paper or object somewhere far from your home or situation to symbolize the binding being “sent away.”
- Dispose of the spell’s remains carefully, sealing away the restriction.
Create Your Own Binding Oil
Binding Oil is a type of magical oil typically used in witchcraft and ceremonial magic to “bind” or restrict someone or something. It’s used to prevent an individual from acting in a certain way, stop harmful behavior, or halt someone from causing you harm or interference. It can also be used to bind negative energies or prevent unwanted influences from affecting a situation or person.
Binding Oil is a versatile tool and can be applied in various ways depending on your intention—whether you’re seeking to stop harmful behavior, control a situation, or limit the freedom of an individual or influence.
Binding Oil can be made using a variety of herbs, essential oils, and ingredients that correspond to restriction, protection, and control. Some common ingredients include:
- Cinnamon: Known for its power to influence and control. It’s often used in spells that aim to direct or stop someone’s actions.
- Cloves: Represent protection, and can also be used to control or stop someone from doing harm or interfering.
- Black Pepper: Often used in binding spells to “stir things up” or break negative influences.
- Banishing Herbs: Such as sage, rosemary, and rue, to clear obstacles and negative forces.
- Salt: Commonly used in spells for protection and purification.
- Vinegar: Often included in binding oils to represent souring a situation, making things unpleasant, or creating a barrier.
I have been making my own blend of binding oil for a long time, and generally incorporate specific sigils into the oils. Calamus root and other more controlling roots are often added according to how I’m feeling when I’m making the oil. So you should review the above recipe as a baseline for your own personal binding oil.
Here’s a simple recipe for creating Binding Oil. See Binding Oil
You can adjust the ingredients based on your specific needs or preferences.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil (or your preferred carrier oil)
- 1-2 drops of Cinnamon essential oil (for control and restriction)
- 1-2 drops of Clove essential oil (for protection and binding)
- 1 teaspoon of Ground Black Pepper (to bind and stop interference)
- 1 small pinch of Salt (for purification and protection)
- 1 small sprig of Rue (optional, for banishing negative energy)
- 1 small piece of Black Tourmaline or obsidian (optional, for extra protection)
Instructions:
- Prepare Your Space: Set up your altar or working space and make sure you are in a focused and calm state. You can cast a circle or create sacred space if you prefer.
- Combine the Ingredients: In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon, clove, black pepper, and salt. Add the rue if you have it. Mix well, and then transfer the blend into a small glass bottle or container.
- Add the Oil: Pour in your carrier oil (such as olive oil) over the herbs and spices. Stir it gently, and focus on your intent as you do so.
- Charge the Oil: Hold the bottle in your hands, and concentrate on the purpose of the oil. See the energy from your thoughts and intentions infusing the oil. If you’re binding someone’s harmful actions, visualize that person being restrained or stopped. If you want to bind negative energy, imagine the energy becoming stuck or immobilized.
- Optional: Add a small piece of Black Tourmaline or obsidian for extra protection and grounding energy. You can also chant an affirmation or prayer during the charging process.
- Let It Sit: Allow the oil to sit for 24-48 hours to absorb the energy of the ingredients. You can leave it in a sunny window to “charge” or leave it in a dark, quiet space for a more introspective energy.
How to Use Binding Oil in Spells
Once you’ve made the oil, there are a few different ways you can use it in your magical workings:
1. Anointing Candles
- Bind Someone: Anoint a black candle (representing banishing) or a red candle (representing control) with the Binding Oil. As you do this, focus on your intent. If you’re binding someone, visualize their actions being restrained or stopped. If you’re binding a situation, see the problem being controlled or halted.
- Affirmation: As you anoint the candle, say something like:
- “I bind your actions, your words, your power, and your will. You will no longer interfere with my peace.”
2. Anointing Yourself
- You can anoint yourself with the Binding Oil if you want to stop harmful influences or actions in your own life. Rub a small amount onto your wrists, neck, or temples, and focus on the specific situation you want to control or protect yourself from.
- Affirmation: While anointing, you might say:
- “I bind all negative forces. No harm can touch me, and no energy can control me.”
3. Binding a Person
- Physical Binding: For a direct binding of someone’s actions, you can write the person’s name on a piece of paper and then fold it tightly (usually three times, like a trifold). Anoint the paper with the oil, and as you do so, focus on the person being stopped, restricted, or limited in their actions.
- Place in a Jar: After folding the paper, place it in a small jar with some more of the Binding Oil, and optionally add a pinch of salt, vinegar, or black pepper. Seal the jar and bury it away from your home to keep the energy “bound” and contained.
4. Use in Protection Spells
- In a protection spell, Binding Oil can be used to seal off negative energies or harmful influences. For example, you could anoint the four corners of your house or property with the oil while visualizing a protective barrier being created.
- Affirmation:
- “With this oil, I bind all negative forces. No harm shall enter, and no one shall break my peace.”
5. Bind a Negative Situation
- If you’re facing a situation where something is out of your control, like a problem at work, an unresolved dispute, or an ongoing issue, you can use the Binding Oil to symbolically “bind” the situation. Write a description of the situation on paper, fold it, and anoint it with the oil. Place it in a jar or box to symbolize the situation being “contained” or controlled.
- Affirmation:
- “This problem is bound and will not grow or worsen. It will remain still, until it is resolved.”
Best Demons for Binding Spells
When working with Binding Oil in witchcraft or ceremonial magic, choosing the right demon to work with can significantly enhance the spell’s effectiveness. In particular, demons associated with control, restriction, and binding can help amplify the energies of the oil and make your intention more powerful.
Since Binding Oil is used for restricting actions, stopping interference, or controlling negative influences, you may want to consider demons who are connected to these themes.
Here are a few demons you could consider invoking to aid in successfully using Binding Oil during your spellcasting:
1. Baal (or Bael) – The King of Binding and Control
- Role: Baal is often depicted as a powerful king of hell and a demon who has dominion over controlling and restraining individuals. He can assist in spells related to binding someone’s actions or restricting their influence over you.
- Attributes: Baal is known for commanding others, and working with him could help in a binding spell aimed at controlling a person’s behavior or stopping them from causing harm.
- How to Work with Baal:
- Invocation: You can invoke Baal to assist in the binding of someone or a situation by calling upon his powers of control and restriction.
- Example Ritual: When casting your spell, anoint a black candle with Binding Oil and focus on your desire to restrict the actions of the person you wish to bind. As you light the candle, invoke Baal by saying:
- “Baal, King of control, I call upon your power to bind the actions of [Name]. Let their influence cease, their will be stopped, and their movement restricted.”
2. Belial – Master of Restraint and Obstacles
- Role: Belial is a demon who governs over restraint, punishment, and legal matters. He is associated with imposing limits on others and can assist in situations where you need to halt or block someone’s progress or freedom.
- Attributes: Known for his ability to create obstacles and impose binding authority, Belial can aid in controlling situations or people, especially when their actions are harmful or obstructive to your well-being.
- How to Work with Belial:
- Invocation: Belial can be invoked when you need to restrict or bind a person’s influence over you or your life.
- Example Ritual: Use Binding Oil on a figure candle (representing the person or the situation) while calling upon Belial:
- “Belial, I invoke you to bind and restrain [Name], to block their influence and halt their actions. Let no harm come from their will, and may their power be stopped.”
3. Asmodeus – Demon of Desire and Control
- Role: Asmodeus is often associated with lust, desire, and manipulation, but he is also a powerful figure for controlling passions and behaviors, particularly in personal relationships. He can help you gain control over someone who is acting out of selfishness or causing turmoil in a relationship.
- Attributes: Asmodeus is a demon that helps control desires and passions. His energy can be used to stop someone from acting impulsively or recklessly.
- How to Work with Asmodeus:
- Invocation: Asmodeus can be invoked when you need to control a situation where someone is acting from desire or emotional instability.
- Example Ritual: As you prepare the Binding Oil and anoint a figure candle or a photo of the person, chant:
- “Asmodeus, master of desire and control, I call upon you to bind the passions and actions of [Name]. May their will be restrained, and their influence no longer harm me.”
4. Xaphan – The Demon of Fire and Disruption
- Role: Xaphan is a demon associated with chaos and the disruption of established orders. While he is often invoked for destructive purposes, his abilities can also be used to bind or restrict situations that are out of balance.
- Attributes: Xaphan is known for being a powerful figure in matters of burning away the unwanted and imposing limits or corrections. You can use him to remove someone’s destructive influence or to halt a chaotic situation.
- How to Work with Xaphan:
- Invocation: Call upon Xaphan if you want to bind a situation that’s spiraling out of control or stop a person who is creating chaos in your life.
- Example Ritual: As you apply the Binding Oil to your candles, say:
- “Xaphan, I call upon your power to bind the disorder caused by [Name]. Let their influence be contained, their actions halted, and their power restrained.”
5. Paimon – The King Who Grants Influence and Authority
- Role: Paimon is a powerful demon who can control others and influence their thoughts and actions. While Paimon is often invoked for gaining influence over others, he can also help bind someone’s behavior by taking control over their actions.
- Attributes: Paimon has dominion over the minds of others, making him ideal for binding spells where you want to control or stop someone’s behavior.
- How to Work with Paimon:
- Invocation: Paimon can be called upon when you wish to bind someone’s actions or force them into submission, particularly in cases where you need someone to stop influencing or interfering in your life.
- Example Ritual: While anointing the figure candle or photo with Binding Oil, say:
- “Paimon, King of influence, I call upon your power to bind the actions of [Name]. Their will shall be under your control, and their movements restricted by your power.”
6. Buer – The Healer Who Can Also Bind Energies
- Role: While Buer is known as a healer and a demon who provides counsel and wisdom, he is also capable of binding energies or individuals. His ability to bring healing can be applied to control and restrict negative energies or people who are causing harm.
- Attributes: Buer can assist with healing or limiting negative behavior. If you need to stop someone from causing harm or disrupting peace, he can help in a way that binds without necessarily causing permanent harm.
- How to Work with Buer:
- Invocation: Invoke Buer for situations that require restriction for the greater good, such as when you need to stop negative energy or a harmful person without permanent damage.
- Example Ritual: Apply Binding Oil to a candle or photo while invoking Buer:
- “Buer, I call upon you to bind the harmful actions of [Name]. Let peace and order be restored, and let no more damage come from their behavior.”
The choice of demon to work with during a binding spell depends on the specific nature of the situation you’re facing and the type of binding energy you want to invoke. Demons of authority and control, such as Baal or Belial, are powerful allies when you need to bind someone’s behavior or influence. On the other hand, Asmodeus or Paimon could be ideal if you’re looking to control desires or manipulate a person’s will.
When using Binding Oil, focus on your intention, whether it’s stopping a person’s behavior, controlling a situation, or protecting yourself from negative energies. The demon you choose to invoke should align with that intent to help you achieve the desired outcome effectively.
I always love your feedback as well so feel free to let me know how you modify this oil recipe and the types of result you achieved.
