The following is the Black Witch Coven way of describing a possible magical journey.

The terms Beginner Magick, Intermediate Magick, and Advanced Magick are not a measurement of your intelligence, ability, worth, or success as a practitioner. They are not intended to suggest that one path is better than another, or that everyone must progress from one level to the next.

Instead, these categories help us describe different ways of approaching magic according to factors such as commitment, structure, depth of study, spiritual involvement, and the type of practice being explored.

Your magical practice may remain within one category for your entire life, or it may develop and change over time. You may also find that your interests overlap several categories. There is no single correct way to practice, and your path may evolve as you gain experience and discover what feels right for you.

Beginner Magick

Beginner Magick is about discovering how magic can become part of your life. It does not necessarily mean that you are inexperienced, nor does it have to be a temporary stage.

This path may include simple, practical, and everyday forms of magic, such as:

  • Candle magic
  • Moon magic
  • Crystals
  • Simple spells and rituals
  • Basic protection and cleansing
  • General witchcraft
  • Herbs and other natural correspondences
  • Folk magic
  • Bringing magical intention into everyday life

For some people, Beginner Magick may mean casually adding magical practices to their daily routine. For others, it may develop into a deeply committed witchcraft or folk-magic practice.

This can be a complete path in itself. You do not need to move beyond it in order for your practice to be meaningful, serious, or valid.

Hoodoo is traditionally understood as a folk-magic tradition and may overlap with this area, although specific practices and traditions can also require their own deeper study. As with all forms of magic, where a subject belongs may depend on how it is being approached.

Intermediate Magick

Intermediate Magick describes a more structured and committed approach to magical and spiritual practice. At this point, magic may become a more intentional part of your lifestyle rather than something practiced only occasionally.

This may involve studying particular systems, developing regular rituals, creating a dedicated sacred space, or becoming more involved in a spiritual or magical community. Areas of interest may include:

  • Planetary magic
  • Altar construction and ritual space
  • Ceremonial magic
  • More developed spell and ritual work
  • Spiritual and magical disciplines
  • Working with correspondences and timing
  • Studying magical traditions in greater depth
  • Developing a relationship with a particular spiritual path
  • Spiritual Groups & Communities
  • Making magic a more integrated part of your everyday life

Intermediate Magick is about building greater understanding, consistency, structure, and personal commitment. It is not defined simply by whether a practice is “harder.” Rather, it reflects the point at which you may want to devote more of your time, study, energy, and lifestyle to magic.

Advanced Magick

Advanced Magick refers to specialized, intensive, darker, or traditionally taboo areas of magical practice.

This may include:

  • Black magic
  • The left-hand path
  • Demonology and demon work
  • Summoning
  • Darker forms of spirit work
  • Blood magic
  • Taboo rituals and practices
  • Other specialized forms of magic involving powerful or challenging forces

We use the word Advanced here because these areas may require a strong foundation, substantial preparation, self-awareness, discipline, and an understanding of how you interact with the world around you.

Advanced practice is not simply about seeking greater power. It requires developing a clear understanding of your own boundaries, intentions, actions, and responses. It also involves learning how to remain grounded and responsible when working with intense energies, spirits, environments, or experiences.

When we refer to having a good command of your own vessel, we mean developing an awareness of your body, mind, emotions, energy, and personal limits. Before exploring intense or potentially destabilizing practices, it is important to understand yourself, your environment, and the ways in which you are affected by the work you undertake.

These Categories Can Overlap

These categories are not rigid rules. Magic is broad, and many traditions and practices naturally overlap.

A person may practice folk magic while also studying planetary magic. Someone interested in ceremonial magic may also work with crystals, moon cycles, or herbs. A practitioner exploring demonology may still use basic candle magic or maintain a simple altar.

Your practice may also change over time. You may begin by bringing small magical elements into your everyday life, develop a more committed spiritual practice, and later explore specialized areas. Alternatively, you may remain with folk magic or everyday witchcraft because that is the path that feels most authentic to you.

The purpose of these categories is not to tell you where you must go. They are simply the Black Witch Coven framework for describing different approaches to magic, so you can better understand what interests you, what level of commitment you are seeking, and which areas may be appropriate for further exploration.

    hello
    I am a satanist (demolatry, specifically) and black witch and I am somewhere between intermediate and beginner level. I have successfully summoned and made pacts with Valac, Uphir, and Amon. Uphir is teaching me healing, Valac found stuff I lost, and Amon helped me and my brother get along better, though not fully fixed. I meditate for 5-30 minutes per day and I can perform intermediate spells but I practice the same stuff as a beginner. What more would an intermediate witch do to get better at magick?

    I recently lost my mother and I believe I have had several connections with her energy. The most recent …in a dream, I felt a spirit hug me 2x, while in the dream (the actual dream content had nothing to do with my mom)…I knew instantly it was my mom. I felt it – and it wasn’t like a normal hug. After those 2 hugs …I felt something wrap around me (i had the impression it was gray and dark) and it began to squeeze really hard and I pushed it away spiritually and then forced myself awake.

      meditate daily. get in nature as much as you possibly can. eat lunch outside. breakfast and dinner also (preferably) outside. take walks. ground and center. keep a dream journal and a grimoire.

    I am looking to get into the dark arts and follow the left hand path. I was raised a Christian but I never really felt a connection to it. I continuously tried to follow it until about a year and a half ago when I just gave up. I recently purchased a Satanic bible and I felt an immediate connection to it. I am looking for how to start my path in the dark arts. I have some experience with meditation and energy as I can meditate fairly easily. I have also created an energy ball when I was about 12 and I can create one whenever I try to. I have also been baptized as a Christian, will this affect how well I am able to follow the left hand path?

    I am a 15 year old male. My mom was a Wiccan and my dad is a Shamman. My mom died before she could teach me how to control my power. But she always told me that my namesake is watching over me. My dad doesn’t think that I will be able to control my power and that I need to go to someone who knows what they are doing. I have gone to several Wiccan sights, and all of them say that I am out of their league. I have always had a deep connection with nature and animals. I can make animals do small things like quiet down or stop moving. I can do this with people too just on a much smaller scale, and I have to be thouching people for it to work. I can force my energy out of my hands and create sparks as far away as 2 and a half feet. I can push my energy into objectives and make them shake violently and sometimes break. Plants will move out of my way if I am about to be caused harm by them, and things that should have hit me just seem to warp around me. I don’t know how to control this power, but I think that in time I will. But the main thing I need help with is the astral projection, it happens every night and it is making it hard to sleep, so you know any way to stop projecting myself to other places? I’m getting real tired of watching people being killed.

    Hello, I don’t want to make this a long comment (excuse me if I will) so I’ll get to the point, I have a pitiful weak life, I am an atheist, I do not believe in the existence of some “almighty saint all-loving god”, and I have tried to live life by its simplest rules, and yet I’m not happy, I have so many weaknesses that i can’t bear, so I decided that if there is magic, then I might as well commit myself to it even if its the last thing i do, and it probably is, I want to learn magic, black, white, demonic, I do not care, so I went to this website, and forgive my rudeness, it doesn’t teach shit, all it does is tell me how to meditate which believe me I already know how to do, this website doesn’t teach specified spells, if there’s a book that teaches any type of magic from top to bottom and how to let one achieve something they desire no matter which sacrifice they have to commit, then please with all of my problematic half dead stressed heart, please tell me the name of that book and where i can get it.

      I’m sorry you have a ‘…have a pitiful weak life…’ and that you’re ‘…not happy…’ We’ve all been there and it’s not a good place to be.
      As to your comment that our website ‘…doesn’t teach shit, all it does is tell me how to meditate which believe me I already know how to do…’ Well, goody for you. Well done for being able to do step 1.
      I’m sceptical that you have the patience or perseverence to PRACTICE magic. See what I did there? Practice. That’s what it’s all about. You won’t find the answers in 1 book, you won’t find them in 50 books. This is a lifetime journey down a crooked path that leads you all over the place, experimenting, adjusting and incorperating knowledge you’ve aquired to connect with spirit and manifest your desires.
      Your comment about having everything top to bottom in 1 book, had us rolling on the floor laughing. As in one breath you say you’ll sacrifice anything while you won’t sacrifice the time and effort to read more than 1 book.
      For you to able to do any magic at all, you’ll need to adjust your attitude and expectations. This is a lifetime commitment and the only express lane is knowledge and practice.

        perhaps it is true.. i can not sacrifice time, but then what is the point? what’s the point in magic if you will spend your whole life learning it and practicing if there will be such a minor benefit.

          i bet you can sacrifice time. When you eat a meal you can eat it outside, while reading a book on magic while you are at it. I can. There is a major benefit to it, better job, more money, dream house, dream car, you can be yourself, and you will never be bored, because if you think you know everything, then that is a lie because there is always SOMETHING to learn.

      All of u have no clue what ur getting into I know because I’m a master in certain areas in the dark arts and crafts like one of my areas is to see into the past or into the future for my own benefit and that took me 2 years since I was 11 and now I’m 13 I’m also capable of devouring a ghosts power and locking it inside of me to increase my power and it’s effectiveness and I have devoured 9 of them and I know when someone I know is going to die because I caused it due to spiritual energy toward them as hate for the wrong they have done me if you believe in the seven deadly sins the sin that calls out to me is the sin of wrath and the sin of greed and envy so yeah I’m a 13 year old boy and I can already do so much by hard work and dedication and by my passed down ability to devour evil souls of neither world or assiah it so happens to be named I have also been able to kill 11 hell hounds with a regular old iron knife to the head so to me you ain’t worth my time

      You can’t if you want to learn real old magic you’ll need to summon the dead wich would be necromancy and if you wand to get that sort of knolage you’ll need to seek it it wil be on the web but where a necromancy book can cost tons because teir old so you need to know it otherwise its inpossible i think

    How shall one master these arts? I desire to become knowledgeable of and to pursue these practices. I wish to practice both black arts and white arts as they call them categorizing me as a Satanist I believe. I do not plan to use these gifts for greed nor selfishness. I have the utmost respect and acceptance to any and all entity/being and plan to greet whomever with solemn reverence. I do not trust the internet as I am reaching out to a lady who seems experienced, will you enlighten me with a reliable source(s) ?       honestly, even if you are a medium-level or highly experienced witch, then keep doing the beginner things as well as stuff that is on your level. the basics are the core of everything. check the beginner black magick category. I am sort of beginner, kind of intermediate. I have summoned Valac, Uphir (who is teaching me healing), and Amon.

      Greetings,

      What a great question, as it is fair to believe Satan is required in all demonic summoning rituals. While I can only answer on behalf of myself and my own students, Satan is rarely spoken about or too! Demonic forces are summoned depending on the ritual for which they are required. For example, if you desire to work with Belial, then you would set up your altar/workspace to summon just Belial. Other occultists will call on the demonic “gatekeepers” to each of the quarters, similar to what is down in a Wiccan Calling the Quarters. Some people will call to Satan as the 5th Element being Spirit, if using the example given.

      I hope this gives you enough information for further exploration.

          Guess this is more my area of expertise to answer than those who work with the BWC. Hardly. A little magic won’t send anyone to hell in and of itself (Jesus hung out with murderers and thieves, so..). You create your own “difficulty level” of hell, as what you believe is a sin, deep down, it is a sin. Now. If you willfully worship Satan and his angels and hate the light, then chances are your afterlife will be less enjoyable than most. If you’re a Christian, there is no sin that would cast you to perdition. If you don’t believe in God then do as you please as it won’t matter one bit.

      you do not have to harm others. black magic is magick that can be used for personal gain and/or for others gain. while you are meditating, try to sense Satan/Lucifer’s energy. Try different divination methods with him, though I do not recommend the Ouija Board for beginners. Ask him to show up in your dreams. The ‘Start Here’ tab is where to start.

      It is always hard to give standard answers online, as I have no clue as to what you already practice, what spirits you connect with, and how strong your dedication to taking actions towards your goals, and how long you have been on your path. Other considerations are that I would need to know your comfort level in the traditions as discussed at Black Witch Coven, as we lend ourselves heavily towards the left hand path and dark arts. This may not be right for you. However, some people have instant success when asking for help from the “otherside” and other people feel somewhat ignored.

      So, not knowing all of the above, I suggest you start out in Chaos Magick – as it is generally less about spiritual connection, and more about.

      No one truly has the 100% guarantee on what works, as each unique and individual soul is on his/her own journey in this lifetime.

    I have always felt the pull of Lord Lucifer. Even as a very young girl. I tried at 13 to sell my soul. I have tried several times since. I know I have a connection to Lord Lucifer almost as if he is my father and has been waiting on me to make a pact with him. Does this sound crazy as hell or could it be.
