Hindus recognise one God, Brahman, the eternal origin who is the cause and foundation of all existence.

Lakshmi is the goddess of beauty and fortune

The gods of the Hindu faith represent different expressions of Brahman.

Hindus recognizes three principal gods:

  • Brahma, who creates the universe
  • Vishnu, who preserves the universe
  • Shiva, who destroys the universe.

The main Hindu deities include:

  • Ganesha the elephant-headed God, lord of auspicious beginnings and remover of obstacles, lover of sweets; one of the best-known Hindu deities.
  • Parvati, Ganesha’s mother, a primordial Mother Goddess. She is the daughter of the Mountain God Himavan and his Queen Menaka (who themselves could make this list, but they’re most famous for being Parvati’s parents), and is the wife of Shiva and also the mother of Kartikeya and Ashokasundari.
  • Shiva, Parvati’s husband and father to Ganesha, Kartikeya, and Ashokasundari; the primordial Masculine Principle but also, paradoxically, a God of reclusive Yoga. Also the Destroyer. One of the principal deities and supreme beings of Hinduism. Wielder of the trident, bearer of the crescent moon, etc.
