Molech was the ancient Ammonite fire god.

He was known by many names: Molech, Mollok, Milcom, or Malcam

Other Names: Melech, Mo-lech, Milcom, Melkom, Moloch, Molek, Malec, Malik, Melek, Malkum, Melqart, Melkart, Milk, Melqarth, Kronos, Cronus. In Islam, Mo-lech is called Malec or Malik (meaning King), believed to be the principal angel in charge of Djahannam, the Islamic version of hell.

It is said that Moloch later became Adramalech, and his archetype and desire for offerings of only human sacrifice remains the same.

Worshiped throughout the ancient Near East and North Africa, by Canaanites and Philistines, Arameans and Semitic peoples and later, Phoenicians.

Ashtoreth (Astaroth) was said to be his Goddess & “fertility consort”

Molech represented the male principle of life and reproduction

Ashtoreth represented the female principle of fertility.

Advice for the Modern Occultist

There is little information about this ancient God, and I feel that he is somewhat like Lilith, in that he will come to you. He will come to specific people in times of desiring personal growth, and in breaking away from traditional religious systems to develop a stronger understanding of the occult.

Advice on offerings:

It is strictly a sexual offering which is required, however, I will not go into details as this is a public space, so I will quote you some historic passages and you will know what to do. These practices were exactly the offerings made to the gods at the time before the modern religious system took over eg 2000 years ago. Our pagan religions of the ancient near east shared a common feature – we worshiped a Mother goddess.

In Ashtoreth’s worship services, male worshipers had anal sex with priests and priestesses of the goddess. This was viewed as an offering to the fertility goddess. The priests and male prostitutes, who were consecrated to her cult were called qadesh, qedishim or sodomites

  • Anal sex between male and male worshipers and male and female worshipers was viewed as an offering to the goddess (Astaroth)

“Fertility rites were practiced at the numerous shrines which dotted the land, as well as at the major sanctuaries… A characteristic feature of the fertility cult was sacral sexual intercourse by priests and priestesses and other specially consecrated persons, sacred prostitutes of both sexes… Child-sacrifice was also a feature of the rites…”

Enough said. And just to make it clear as to my position on child sacrifice, I definitely do not believe in this practice, as it is totally unnecessary in this day and age. The offering of sex and sexual energy is something to be strongly considered and implemented.

moloch

Dictionnaire Infernal – Collin de Plancy (1863)

  • Moloch was the god of the Ammonites, portrayed as a bronze statue with a calf’s head adorned with a royal crown and seated on a throne.
  • His arms were extended to receive the child victims sacrificed to him as he was said to be the Canaanite god associated with child sacrifice, through fire or war.
  • Milton wrote that Moloch was a frightening and terrible demon covered with mothers’ tears and children’s blood.

It is likely that the motif of stealing children was inspired by the traditional understanding that babies were sacrificed to Moloch (see biblical references below)

During the 16th century, it was believed that each demon had more strength to accomplish his mission during a special month of the year. In this way, he and his assistants’ powers would work better during that month. The classification of demons by month seems to have astrological implications more than religious ones. Therefore, it was believed that Moloch was to be celebrated in the month of December.

Biblical texts

Moloch the god

An 18th-century German illustration of Moloch (“Der Götze Moloch” i.e. Moloch, the false god).

The word here translated literally as ‘seed’ very often means offspring. The forms containing mlk have been left untranslated. The reader may substitute either “to Moloch” or “as a molk“.

According to Biblical texts, the laws were given to Moses by God expressly forbade the Israelites to do what was done in Egypt or in Canaan.

Leviticus 18:21: ‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD.

Leviticus 20:2–5: Again, you shall say to the Sons of Israel: Whoever he be of the Sons of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that gives any of his seed l’Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. And I will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people; because he has given of his seed l’Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. And if the people of the land do at all hide their eyes from that man, when he gives of his seed l’Molech, and do not kill him, then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go astray after him, whoring l’Molech from among the people.

2 Kings 23:10 (on King Josiah’s reform): And he defiled the Tophet, which is in the valley of Ben-hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter pass through the fire l’Molech.

Is the Baby Sacrifice True?

Molech: Babylonian cylinder seal representing child sacrifice

Before believing he is a Demon who has the only ability and desire for child sacrifice, we have to look at the source which claims for this story to be true. The most common source of evidence of Baby sacrificed to Moloch is written in the bible.

A child sacrifice laid on the hands, would roll into the fire in the belly cavity. Scripture describes this practice as “passing through the fire to Molech,” Leviticus 18:21.

“The whole area before the statue was filled with a loud noise of flutes and drums so that the cries of wailing [of the children being sacrificed] should not reach the ears of the people.”

“There was in their city a bronze image of Cronus extending its hands, palms up and sloping toward the ground, so that each of the children when placed thereon rolled down and fell into a sort of gaping pit filled with fire.”

You have to research wide and deep to form another opinion which is probably more accurate. That is babies were passed over a fire consecrated to Moloch, with the ritual done quickly and with no harm to the baby. It was done to ask the blessing of Moloch to the child and thus protect him from any Evil Spirit from the Underworld.

On the other hand, it is well known that to honor your God with sacrifice was with your most prized possession. Human sacrifice refers to the practice of ritual killing of human beings as offerings to divine patrons, ancestors, or other superhuman forces, and we see examples of such sacrifice around the world. I will give two examples of such cultures and their beliefs below, so we can begin to remove the sinister aspect away from Moloch and the practices of that time, and focus on the greatest of His presence to the people of that time.

See Wiki on Child Sacrifice around the world

Archaeologists at the University of Pennsylvania reached that conclusion after conducting the first CT scans of two skulls from the 4,500-year-old cemetery. The cemetery, with 16 tombs grand in construction and rich in gold and jewels, was discovered in the 1920s. A sensation in 20th century archaeology, it revealed the splendor at the height of the Mesopotamian civilization. The recovery of about 2,000 burials attested to the practice of human sacrifice on a large scale. At or even before the demise of a king or queen, members of the court handmaidens, warriors and others were put to death. Their bodies were usually arranged neatly, the women in elaborate headdress, the warriors with weapons at their side. (5)

Molech represented the male principle of life and reproduction while Ashtoreth represented the female principle of fertility. In history, babies under three months old were sacrificed to the gods in a tophet for appeasement and blessings of not only the parents but of the entire village or kingdom.

Human sacrifice in Maya culture

During the pre-Columbian era, human sacrifice in Maya culture was the ritual offering of nourishment to the gods. Blood was viewed as a potent source of nourishment for the Maya deities, and the sacrifice of a living creature was a powerful blood offering. By extension, the sacrifice of a human life was the ultimate offering of blood to the gods, and the most important Maya rituals culminated in human sacrifice. Generally only high status prisoners of war were sacrificed, with lower status captives being used for labour. (4)

Human sacrifice in Chinese culture

CHINA – Large-scale, systematic human sacrifice functioned as important political and religious spectacles in Shang dynasty.

In most Shang sacrificial rituals, only animals and valuable chattels (such as bronze wares) would be used as offerings. There were only two exceptional circumstances where human sacrifices were made: xunzang 殉葬 and renji 人祭.  Xunzang 殉葬  (lit. “burial sacrifice”) refers to the practice in which personal slaves and servants of Shang king, upon their master’s death, were expected to commit ritual suicide or to “volunteer” themselves to be buried alive alongside with their master.  While the practice of committing ritual suicide upon the master’s death has lingered throughout Chinese history, the second type of human sacrifice, renji 人祭 (lit. “human offering sacrifice) is practiced only during the Shang dynasty period, and also the most massive in scale in terms of number of people killed in a typical  renji ceremony. The demographic pattern of Shang sacrificial victims is also quite interesting. Xunzang victims (or “volunteers”) were mostly personal slaves (i.e. house servants), and therefore in xunzang burial sites we could find a pretty even mix of male and female human remains. Renji victims, on the other hand, appears to be predominately male. Unlike xunzang, the people sacrificed for Renji were not personal slaves, but mostly prisoners of war and field slaves (keep in mind that Shang field slaves were typically captured from distant lands outside of Shang domain).

To pray for the end of the famine brought by Shang-Di’s wrath, the Shang king would demonstrate to the supreme deity of their devoutness through the specular spilling of sacrificial human blood. Oracle bone inscriptions refer to such sacrificial human blood as qiu (氿, lit. “cascade”), but the precise method for extracting the sacrificial blood unknown (see fig. 4).   The largest recorded human sacrifice of this kind was done by Shang king Wuding, where over 9,000 slaves were slaughtered as offerings to Shang-Di.(3)

Kabbalistic Texts

In Kabbalistic lore, he is, with Satan, the first of the evil Demons of the Tree of Life. The ancient Greeks associated Moloch with Cronos, the god of time, who devoured his own children in order to prevent them from challenging his rule.
