Greetings,
It’s quite exciting to look back at the last five years at HOW Open and visible magic has become online. If you’re quite new to the world of magic, you might think this is quite easy and normal to share magical information on the Internet, but this hasn’t always been the case.
In fact, when we started the website for Black Witch Coven, well over 15 years ago, there were constantly issues with our hosting company on what we were posting. We definitely could not do any advertising as they would not accept advertising money. Facebook still will not let us advertise our products or services on their social media. And if anything on our website suggested dark magic or baneful type spells, the page would be blocked or the website would be shut down. This continued onto the BWC YouTube channel where my videos were constantly removed that apparently offended either YouTube or probably some other Christian YouTube subscriber. I think it’s fair to say that YouTube has opened the door, so all people can express their religious freedom and personal opinions. Praise Lucifer!
But I digress. What I’m sharing today is for the everyday person who is interested in magic, but thinks “That looks like hard work!” OR “How can I do that type of magical spell in privacy?”Both of those things could be true for you, but the problem is that you probably still want some level of magical influence in your life, and you don’t want to go through years of magical training. The solution is candle magic using the 7-Day Jar Candles.
Of course, many people reading this already know about these types of jars. Especially if you’re living in the USA. But if you’re not living in the USA, let me say that these jars can be quite expensive to purchase, if in fact, you can purchase them at all. They weigh about 2 pounds each, so it could be quite cost-prohibitive to ship this type of candle overseas. They can be bought quite inexpensively here in the USA, especially if you have access to a local Botanica (folk magic style store).
If you visit here to New Orleans, I recommend you go up to the Island of Salvation Botanica, as the Voudon priestess Sallie Ann Glassman and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you meet Sallie Ann, let her know that Savannah from Black Witch Coven sent you 😉 These people are the real deal and they sell, inexpensive jar candles for you to either take home, or they will set the candle for you, and light it to sit in their candle stands.
In the image to your right, you can see the jar candles sitting on a stand. Quite simply these candles are dressed with the appropriate herb and blessed before setting the candle alight. Due to fire department regulations in the building of this Botanica, the candles need to be extinguished each night, but they are re-lit each morning when the shop opens. Once again, there is a prayer said for these candles. This is just one of the deities and stands, but there are several. Each of these stands is an altar to the deity, and offerings are left in thanks.
But if you’re on a budget and you need to bring some energy your way, this is the way to go about it without having to learn a whole system of magic. And so that’s what I’m sharing with you today, how to set a quick and easy candle, so you can get your spiritual message across to the spiritual world without the complexity of other styles of spellcasting.
How to set an easy and affordable spell candle
In folk magic, and in witchcraft, candles have been given certain colours to match the intentions. More information about that here. And in all magical traditions, we must consider the properties of the herb, and a planetary alignment, according to how they can assist us with whatever magic we are performing.
For example, if we are desiring to set a candle to draw in fast money, we could use a variety of jar candles such as Fast Money, Fast Luck, Money Drawing, High John the Conqueror, lodestone, and Bayberry. Any of these candles could be perfect to petition the spiritual world for money to come your way.
You don’t need a herb and an oil. Because a good oil is composed of herbs. In many, who do you style herb oil recipes, you will see the oils floating around in the herbs. But in darker magic practices, generally, we will strain the herbs out of the oil to provide a finished product without herbs in the bottle. (Personally, as someone who makes oils according to correspondences, I do go with the flow and create both demonic oils and hoodoo oils as I feel like it at that time – meaning that sometimes I will leave the herbs in the jars and other times I will remove the herbs afterwards). The point is that you don’t have to add extra herb to the jar, if you buy the correct corresponding oil.
If you don’t have any appropriate oil, and you feel stuck, head over to your cooking cupboard because you probably have something sitting in there that is quite magical and appropriate to use. For example, for money magic, cinnamon is fabulous, as is basil, thyme, parsley, or allspice, and these are probably already sitting in your cupboard. Take a pinch of these herbs, and sprinkle them on the top of the candle.
Let’s begin:
- A simple technique is to write down the name of your target on a piece of parchment paper or brown paper bag. (I also like to write the information directly onto the glass jar, as I set so many jar candles for myself, and for clients, I would hate for the petition papers to get lost and the jars confused with each other because I quite frequently light several candles for the same petition, and I like to read the jars after the candles finish. But you don’t have to do that). In fact, if it is your candle, and you’re only doing a single candle, having the intention clearly in your mind when you light the candle is powerful enough. Still, when you’re brand-new to spell casting, it probably doesn’t feel like you are casting a spell, because it may be hard for you to hold the intention in your head with all your other doubtful thoughts intruding, therefore diluting what you’re trying to do)
- Using the appropriate Oil for the spell anoint the candle and the paper with a few drops of Oil.
- When ready, light the candle and say a prayer or read/say your intention to the spirit you want to have as your audience. Sometimes I like to repeat the same petition a few times, becoming more powerful with my request each time.
- Now, the candle is lit, you have two choices. You can sit there, focused on the intention for as long as you desire, and then snuff out the candle. Some people like to come back to the candle, the same time, each day, light, the candle and repeat the intention, and do it until the candle extinguishes. If you come back to the candle every day to say a prayer and reinstate your goal or petition into the candle, you would add a few more drops of the oil at this time. Other people like myself, allow the candle to continuously burn until finished.
Do I read the jar afterward?
This is a personal matter, however, if you are brand-new to this type of magic don’t stress about trying to read the jar if you don’t have time or if you’re not interested. The magic is in the burning of the candle so why not just try and burn a candle with the right intention and see what results you get? If you want to read the jar we have written extensively on this matter here – Reading Jar Candles
When you become more experienced you will probably perform a divination session before doing any magic. This will give you an indication of some of the challenges that you may be up against before you conduct the magic.
If you are new to magic, just accept that it is now complete. Your petition is heard by the spiritual world and the spiritual world will do what it wants to do in its own time. Just like if you were to leave it at the Botanica, where there is no final interpretation of the message/s left on the physical jar.
Remember that magic is not guaranteed, and it is not television. Yes, it is true that you could get what you want so quickly, but I wouldn’t judge the speediness of you getting what you want on your magical ability. There are many other factors at play, but influence why your spell is doing what it’s doing. But enough about that right now. The goal is to keep it simple. To get it done.
If you want to take it a step further, you could light additional candles, depending on what the feedback is from the candle, you just finished, or you could do some divination, such as a pendulum, or some tarot cards to get further insight as to what you should do next in your magic.
Final Thoughts
If you want to get into understanding this type of magic a little deeper, I have a course specifically on this style of magic. It is on our sister website, and called Candle magic for beginners
Or, if you want to learn more about candles, we have a tonne of information about how to set candles and how to read, and interpret the messages from the wax, the smoke, and the jar here on our website.
I will just reiterate hear that don’t strive for perfectionism in your magic. The most important part of beginning magic is just to begin. Take that first step. Even if it’s just dropping some olive oil or appropriate herb into the candle with your petition, either sitting under the candle or written on the jar that is very powerful in itself. Don’t be scared of magic with all of the information now available.
Of course, if it all seems too hard, we can do it for you ourselves here on one of our altars.
Candle Burning Service – called Setting of Lights
We also offer spiritual praise services: Candle Burning Service: blessings – gratitude – offerings
Or buy a jar candle from our store here 7-Day Glass Candles (Many Varieties)
If you want to share with me how you started with candle magic or any other advice for other readers, I would love to hear what you have to say in the comments below.
