Once your jar is complete, it is placed on the appropriate altar and worked over time with candle rituals, incantations, and daily spellwork. This is not a one-off ritual—this is ongoing magical pressure.

Updates and Working Period

You will receive a photo once the initial sour jar is prepared and placed on the altar. Please allow 3–7 days for us to begin your service, as ritual preparations take time.

After that, your spell jar will remain on our altar for a period of 3 to 6 months—this is included at no extra charge (previously $40 per month). During this time, it will continue to be empowered with ritual energy.

We no longer provide follow-up photos or notifications when the spell is complete. At the end of its cycle, your jar will be respectfully removed without notice. There is nothing to report upon, as we don’t interpret the contents of the jar. If you would like an update on your specific situation, then some type of reading would be the best way to discover what is really going on at this point in time.

This update helps us keep altar work focused, potent, and affordable—while avoiding delays that come from trying to document complex and layered magical workings.

If you would like your spellwork to continue beyond the original 3 to 6 months, we recommend re-purchasing the same type of jar spell. This allows us to create a fresh, energetically clean container, and renew your intention with updated spiritual work. A new jar gives your spell a powerful second wind and ensures the work stays active and aligned with your goals over the next cycle on our altar.

A Note on Ethics & Results

Sour Jars are part of the traditional arsenal of folk witches and rootworkers. This is cursing magic, and while it’s defensive in nature, it should be approached with intention and clarity. Once begun, these workings cannot be undone by Black Witch Coven.

Just to make sure you really intend on causing harm to the target. The type of harm caused is unknown, as we cannot control what spirits of death desire once they are unleashed.
