Ronove: the Linguist
“… Ronove is a Marquis and Great Earl of Hell, commanding twenty legions of demons. He teaches art, rhetoric, languages, and gives good and loyal servants and the favour of friends and foes. He is depicted as a monster holding a staff, without detailing his appearance. He is also described as taker of old souls; often coming to earth to harvest souls of decrepit humans and animals near death.”

Demon Ronove: The Soul Harvester
In my personal deck of cards, I have given Ronove the High Priestess tarot card due to its association with intuition and higher wisdom. In keeping true to the Occult Tarot deck however, I will grant him the 8 of Wands. Like the other items in this thread, I hope to pick one Oracle card daily to provide inspiration and guidance. Hopefully, one of our beloved demons can also provide a response to further guide my practice.
The Wands are always associated with the element of fire. Fire is universally acknowledged as a forceful phenomenon. This suit is therefore correlated with unpredictability, wildness, powerful energy, passion, virility, strength, and impetuousness. It is described as a masculine element which reflects the irrepressible nature and drive of masculine power. There is a desire to control one’s urges in order to make decisions that can help one to get ahead in life.
Wand Archetypes are usually thought to possess primal energy, strength, determination, ambition, original thought, and spirituality. They are described as being reckless or impulsive within their decision making. The archetypes often struggle with controlling themselves as a result of habitual behavior or tendencies to jump into conclusions without considering all the relevant facts surrounding a case.
The 8 of Wands belongs to the Minor Arcana tarot deck. When it appears upright in a reading, it is usually interpreted to mean action, fast paced changes, or movement. When it appears reversed it usually means frustrations, delays, or even resistance to change. I refer to this card as the “Change Card” because its implications pertaining to movement highlight the shifting nature of all things.
The 8 of Wands depicts eight wands sailing in the air. They are essentially sprouts that appear to be moving through the air at high speeds – this highlights change as stated above with locomotion thought to alter the position or stance of the item in question. The sky in the background is clear and there are no other items shown on the card. The clarity of the sky perhaps shows an ordinarily functioning human mind as a clean slate upon which changes can manifest.
The Demon
Ronove is one of the 72 fallen angels that were ensnared by King Solomon and bound to a brass vessel. He is listed as 27th of the 72 Goetic spirits in the Ars Goetia. The demon is ranked as a Great Marquis of Hell with dominion over twenty legions of lesser demons – some accounts (such as the Dictionnaire Infernal and the Goetia by Mathers) report him to be a Great Earl of Hell instead or having command over 19 legions of lesser demons that do his bidding.
Significant Symbol – Fire
His symbol of fire is associated with destruction, powerful energy, war, recklessness, or even impetuousness. Fire is important throughout magic and is a masculine element that is associated with high potency. Furthermore, the transient nature of fire also aligns well with the theme of change. Therefore, this demon’s association with the element of fire perhaps harks back to his potency as a high ranking official within the hellish realm.
There is no conclusive description of Ronove’s appearance throughout magic. Most accounts report that he is a monstrous entity who appears holding a staff – this vague description usually results in him being depicted with humanoid features such as arms and legs. He is also reported to possess an ugly human face and a tail akin to that of a monkey. There are no mentions of whether he can take up a human shape at the request of the conjuror.
Ronove also goes by other names such as Roneve, Ronwe, or Ronobe depending on the text being examined. Among the renowned grimoires that mention this demon include the Dictionnaire Infernal, the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, and others. The exact origins of this demon are difficult to trace because there are no mentions of him within ancient Graeco-Roman mythologies or early Middle Eastern accounts.
Note – Ronove is a multi-lingual spirit who can help one to get ahead in life through his tutelage of arts, rhetoric, and his provision of familiars.
The Message
Are there any impending changes in my life that I should anticipate? Is anyone mad at me today?
I believe that Ronove comes to help the conjuror through reconciling feuds, currying favor with others, and providing excellent familiars. I am also aware that he can teach arts, rhetoric, and languages if the conjuror so wishes. When working with this demon, I usually focus on his office which is to give the favor of friends and enemies as I believe this can help me to get ahead in life. I am usually not drawn towards familiars because of the callous nature of most demons who can deceive the mage.
When the 8 of Wands appears upright in a reading, I usually begin to anticipate that some change is going to take place in my life soon and begin preparing. When it is reversed however, I am drawn towards caution lest I fall victim to undesirable outcomes. Usually, it takes a few days or weeks before the changes manifest in my life – these can range from anything in academia, industry, or even personal life. When I do not discern any changes, I usually assume the chance has passed or is yet to come. In the latter case, I will always exercise caution for the time being.
