Segal, the Tenth Servitor of Duke Syrach

Segal is another of the eighteen servitors of Duke Syrach. He is the tenth within the hierarchy is also referred to as Segol. The grimories which make mention of this demon are the Secrets of Solomon and the Grimorium Verum. He otherwise largely exists within the obscurity of the world of demonology – this is presumably because he shares his office with other demons that are considerably easier to summon. The Plangiere edition of the Grimorium Verum states the following regarding this demon: “Segal will cause all sorts of prodigies to appear.”

Like the other inferior demons within this hierarchy, Segal was first mentioned in recorded history by Alibek the Egyptian circa 1517 during the publication of the Grimorium Verum. There is a distinct lack of information regarding the demons associated with servitude to Duke Syrach and Segal is no different since he is equally obscure. It is possible that the arduous task which must be undertaken for their invocation rendered them unpopular within earlier demonology circles. In so doing, most mediums have become oblivious of these demons’ potential.

Segal is capable of providing the conjuror with all sorts of prodigies. These can be either natural or supernatural depending on the preferences of the medium. The prodigies can then be tasked with doing the conjuror’s bidding thus augmenting their magic. The ritual for invoking Segal is the same one used in the evocation of the other servitor demons of Duke Syrach. It is a relatively difficult task which asks the medium to neither sin nor have any sexual contact for three days before executing the last steps in the process of summoning Segal.

There are no revelations of whether the demon himself is malevolent or benevolent. As such, it is necessary that only experienced conjurors attempt his invocation. Nevertheless, the oblivion regarding his true nature poses a risk of sorts to the conjuror regardless of their levels of experience. It is important to show him the highest respect in order to minimize the probability of malevolence while increasing the chances of a desirable outcome during rituals. If conjured up properly, Segal should provide one with prodigies to further their magic.

History

Segal was first mentioned in recorded history by Alibek the Egyptian in 1517 during the publication of the Grimorium Verum. The Grimorium Verum does not make a revelation of Segal’s origins and there are no credible links to old Graeco-Roman mythology or ancient Middle-Eastern narratives. Likewise, there are no known correlations to this demon within Judeo-Christian accounts. The likelihood is that Segal was previously a pagan deity whose title was Latinized with the spread of Christianity during the Middle Ages. He was subsequently demonized and cast as a resident of hell whereupon his original identity was lost to history.

There are no credible accounts or reports within trusted grimories that describe the physical manifestation of Segal. It is thus plausible that this demon is invisible when he manifests and the conjuror is tasked with feeling an energetic presence when the demon is invoked.

Segal is capable of providing both natural and supernatural prodigies depending on the preferences of the medium. These can be leveraged to further one’s magic.
There is a dearth of information regarding this demon and the other servitors within the same hierarchy presumably due to the difficulty of summoning them. As a result, the true nature of this demon is unknown within practice.
Segal appears near the middle of this hierarchy thereby meaning he is somewhat subordinate. This does not however diminish from his potency as care should still be taken when dealing with all demons.

When to summon Segal

Segal can be called forth to provide the conjuror with prodigies whenever they deem fit. The prodigies which this demon is capable of supplying can be either natural or supernatural depending on the wishes of the conjuror. It is presently unknown whether Segal is a day or night demon however thereby posing more mystery around the already obscure entity.

Precautions:

This demon is potent despite his ranking as almost in the middle in the hierarchy. It is therefore necessary to accord him the utmost respect during rituals.
The conjuror should take care to protect themselves from otherworldly entities by visualizing a protection circle and entering it.
Reliance on demonic powers should also be minimized as it may affect the psychological parts of one’s life.

Steps

The conjuror should prepare by balancing their energies through engaging in power meditation.
The conjuror must also prepare themselves through saying the following prayer while washing the arms and face with the holy: “Lord God, ADONAY, who hast formed man in Thine image, I, the unworthy and sinful, beseech Thee to sanctify this water, to benefit my body and soul, cause me to be cleansed.”
The conjuror must avoid all sin and stay chaste for three days, praying five times in the day, and four times at night.
The virgin parchment should be prepared containing invocations and the Seal of Segal before the day of the ritual (Thursday).
The following conjuration is then said: “I conjure thee, Segal, by the name of the Great Living God, Sovereign Creator of all things, that thou appear in human form, fair and agreeable, without noise or inconvenience, to answer truthfully in all the interrogations that I shall make. I conjure thee to do this by the power of the Holy and Sacred Names.”
After completion of the ritual, the demon should be dismissed respectfully through the following prayer:

“Go in peace, Segal, whence you came, peace be with you, and come every time I shall call you, in the name of the Father + and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit + Amen“.
