Gypsy’s Tips for Surviving Mercury Retrograde

Is mercury retrograde kicking your ass? As someone who has a natural predisposition to foot-in-mouth disease myself, I can attest to it feeling like one sinkhole after another.

Whenever mercury is retrograde (when it appears to be going backwards) everything under the purview of planet Mercury starts going a bit bonkers.

And because Mercury rules communication, we often end up in a lot of unnecessary confusion, arguments and misunderstandings.

This can have quite the effect on personal and work relationships and of course spells and witchcraft.

Clear communication is essential in witchcraft because it ensures that your intentions, spells, and rituals are precise and true to your heart’s desire.

Magic works on intention. If your words, thoughts, or actions are unclear, your spell’s energy might be misdirected or ineffective. And because witchcraft involves spoken or written words (incantations, petitions, sigils etc), ambiguous wording can lead to unintended results.

So how do we survive it? How do we navigate it?

With patience and clarity.

Communication is so fast these days we don’t compose our thoughts or remarks enough at the best of times. And when the lines of communication get tangled as they do during mercury retrograde, our best bet is to slow it all down.

Anytime, but especially now, the most important thing you can do is to make sure you’re sending and receiving information accurately. Or else how can you make good decisions?

Here’s my 2c on surviving mercury retrograde, whatever side of the veil you’re dancing on.

1 – Don’t take things personally. You’ll need a bucket of salt as this is a frustrating time for many.

2 – Listen harder. Mercury retrograde is notorious for vomiting truths entwined with falsehoods. You need to listen very carefully to discern what’s true and what isn’t.

3 – Pause before you respond. Whether you speak/email/text/post. Pause, clarify, then respond.

4 – Get confirmation you are understood “Can I explain it better for you?”, “Does that make sense?”

5– It’s all in the details. Meetings, contracts, legal papers. Check, recheck, and check again.

6 – Expect changes. Even if you’re fine, those around you might not be. Be prepared pivot.

7 – Silence is golden. In the dulcet tones of Ronan Keating, “You say it best, when you say nothing at all” lol. You don’t have to attend every argument you’re invited to.

8 – In spellwork, use direct and specific wording. “I am prosperous in every aspect of my life”, “I have a fulfilling relationship” and so forth. Nothing ambiguous, no double negatives, keep it really clean.

9 – When using sigils or symbols, ensure their meaning is well-defined before working with them.

10 – In divination, ask clear and specific questions to get clear and specific answers. This is no time for general “What should I do?”. This is the time for questions like “How do I succeed in …”

Clear communication is integral to all relationships. And for a witch, it refines your magic, strengthens connections, and ensures you get the results you intend.
