Each full moon holds unique energies and symbolism, shaping our experiences and guiding us on our journey through life. The July Buck Moon symbolizes growth, harmony with nature and a period of transition.

About the Moon this Month: BUCK MOON

Why? According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the popular Native American name for the July Full Moon is the Buck Moon. The young male deer (bucks) are sprouting new antlers this time of the year. By the end of July, most bucks’ antlers are fully formed, and the hardening process begins.

About the Full Moon

The first of four supermoons to rise in 2023, will mark a series of four supermoons in a row. A Supermoon is a Full or New Moon at or near (within 90% of) the closest approach to the Earth in a given orbit.

July’s lunar display will appear to be brighter in the night sky than any other full moon event that has occurred this year. It will also arrive at its closest point to the Earth. This will make it look 5.8% bigger and shine 12.8% brighter than a regular Full Moon.

The July 2023 Supermoon will be 5.8% larger and 12.8% more luminous than a typical Full Moon. It’s worth noting that the next Supermoon on August 1, 2023, will be even bigger and brighter, with a 7.1% size increase and a 15.6% brightness increase.

A Full Moon occurs when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun. That’s why it rises around sunset and sets just before dawn, so generally, we can only see the exact moment of the full phase in the night part of the Earth. Astronomically speaking, the exact moment of the Full Moon is short.

It happens when the Moon is fully illuminated by the Sun. But the Moon will seem full to the observers the day before or after this moment; the lunar disk will be more than 98% illuminated. So, don’t worry if you miss the exact moment of the full phase – you can still enjoy the Full Moon in the sky!

ALSO….. For witchcraft purposes, the super moon is not important, spiritually or magically speaking! Why? The number of Supermoons in a year may vary depending on what method – astrological or astronomical – you choose to define them. In the first case, use the table made by the Supermoon term creator, the American astrologer Richard Nolle. In the second case, check the one provided by former NASA astrophysicist Fred Espenak. The dates of Supermoons in the two calendars do not always coincide: the same Full Moon may be considered a Supermoon by Nolle and not by Espenak, and vice versa.

QUESTION: HOW DO THE BWC FULL MOON EVENTS WORK?

While the event is closed to public eyes, we do offer time during the ritual for submitting clients’ petitions to the God or Goddess.

As we have been offering this event for so many years, we forget that we have not explained how our full moon event works! So it makes sense that many people ask if this is recorded or shared on Facebook or in a public forum. And maybe in the future, this could be possible but there are reasons why we do not share this event as a public event.

The event is closed (not recorded) because much of the ritual is from our own book of shadows and that is private (and that is common in most older coven’s).

Plus many of our members do not want their faces shown in public (and everyone has their own personal reason for this, including not feeling the need to dress up for a camera). When people are recorded they tend to be worried about many other factors versus being in the moment, so we do not have a recording of rituals or spells at BWC.

The privacy of our clients is also super important. People put very private information on their requests, and it would be terrible to read out everybody’s name and information and then what they’re looking to achieve in front of a camera. We would hate to have to change the way we perform a ritual.

There is time left in our own ritual where we focus on the needs of other people. Again this is quite common in larger events where we sit and we talk about some of the challenges faced by our clients and we raise these issues and concerns to our gods during the height of the full moon.
