POWERS AND WEAPONS USED BY GODS AND DEMONS

A weapon is a device used to inflict harm or damage. They are also used to defend oneself during a conflict or contest. Just like humans use weapons, gods, and demons are known to possess different weapons and powers which they use to either fight or influence their target. In folklore and different religions, several weapons have been mentioned. From Zeus’ thunderbolts to Thor’s Hammer, mentioned in Norse mythology, nearly every culture has a weapon associated with the gods they worship.

Throughout humanity, different stories have been told concerning the origin and powers associated with these weapons. One thing is certain, these weapons helped the heroes to win in different battles. While some gods created their weapons, others got theirs as gifts from other gods (usually a higher god).

Join me as we look at some examples of the weapons used by gods and demons as stated in ancient folklore and fiction.

CHOXOS, THE SMOKE SHIELD

This is a large circular shield made of blackened iron with a draconic image in copper along the outer surface. There are few accounts of Xethalchoate, the largest dragon god fighting battles with this weapon.

According to the Legend, Moorhanos, the dragon goddess was the original creator of the Smoke Shield. She gave it to Thaminx to imbue it with great powers. Later on, she gave it to Xethalchoate as a gift during his wedding.

This weapon forces a sense of loyalty on whoever views it even if they belong to the enemy group. This loyalty can last as long as the Shield is present and up to a season after. In other words, it casts a mind spell on the victim to help the holder of Choxos. And what does it do to the holder? It compels him to fight and defend those in need.

This is a very powerful weapon and as long as the holder wears it on one arm, no surprise attack can get to him. Not even a smite from another god. When faced with multiple attacks, the face of the Shield darkens and becomes like a bottomless pit. This pit swallows every weapon that strikes the surface and this scares the striker away.

THUNDERBOLT

Thunderbolt which is also known as a lightning bolt is used by many gods of darkness, storm, and light. This weapon is a symbolic representation of lightning accompanied by a loud thunderclap. It was mentioned in Indo European mythology where it was associated with the “Sky Father”.  Zeus’ thunderbolt is one of the most feared weapons. He received this weapon from the fabulous Cyclops who were known as Masters of Lightning. When Zeus fought with Typhon, he threw a lightning bolt at him which killed him. He also used it against Tartarus.

VAJRA

This is a similar weapon to Thunderbolt. It is made of the bones of Maharshi Dadhichi. The Hindu god of thunder, Indra can be seen carrying a Vajra. A Vajra is used as a ritual object to symbolize the properties of thunderbolt (irresistible force) and diamond (indestructibility). Also, this weapon represents the firmness of spirit and spiritual power. According to Indian mythology, it is considered as one of the most powerful weapons in the universe.

ANUTU

This is the “Anu Power” which is considered a supreme power in which the god is self-deified. Anutu power is considered a symbol of “ The Black flame” or awakened consciousness. The Luciferian looks up to this as a symbol of antinomianism. Someone who holds this power cannot be governed by any other god.

TABLET OF DESTINIES

This was described as a cuneiform tablet on which fates were written. The one who has been bestowed with the supreme power holds the tablet. When Tiamat gave this tablet to Kingu he became empowered as a god and was able to lead her army of chaos.

MELAMMU OR MELAM

This denotes a mantle of radiance that can be carried by the gods and demons. This mantle radiates great light which inspires the feeling of terror or awe. In the Enuma Elish, it was mentioned that Tiamat cloaked ferocious dragons with fearsome rays and made them carry a mantle of radiance. These were the 11 Monsters of Chaos.

On the image of the 7 headed dragon serpent, Musmahhu, the flames that are seen rising off are considered as Melammu. Another demon god that had seven rays of Melammu is Huwawa and that was under the guidance of Enlil.

The Medieval Alchemists considered Melammu as the light in the depths of darkness. This light can also be called “Sun in the Earth”, Black Sun, and Fire of hell.

Melammusu ezzuti is the inner power and divine fire of consciousness which may be concealed or brought out. In other words, it is controlled through the enlightenment of purposeful experiences. Those who possess it are filled with wisdom and inner power. This light is a symbol of the highest spiritual stage towards enlightenment.

A Luciferian can only obtain this great power through exploration into the underworld. This can be built up through consistent initiation and meditation. Just like the saying goes “ the more one struggles in the Great Work, the greater it will shine.” Once this is attained, it serves as the light of magick and potent cosmic power.

PULUHTU/NI

Whenever a god or demon that possesses the Melam power appears before humans or any other being, an emotion called Puluhtu or Ni is cast on them. This emotion can be described as utter terror. The individual experiences a high level of fear, anxiety, and trembling. While in such a state, some demons/gods may feed on the excess energy released by the individual.

SHARUR

Sharur which means “smasher of thousands” is a symbol and weapon of an Ancient Mesopotamian warrior god, Ninurta. Sumerian mythic sources describe this weapon as an enchanted talking mace. Ninurta used this weapon to defeat the monstrous demon named Asag.

This weapon has the power to fly across vast distances without encountering any impediment and while moving, it continues to communicate with its wielder. Sharur serves not just as a battle weapon, it also provides crucial intelligence to the user. Also, according to Akkadian lore, Sharur may take the form of a winged lion.

MMAAGHA KAMALU

Mmaagha Kamalu

In Igbo mythology, Mmaagha Kamalu is a sword that belongs to the Igbo god of war, Kamalu. It is believed that the sword glows red whenever people with evil intentions are close by. When stuck on the ground it can cause tremors. When mere mortals go to war with this sword, victory is sure.

XTHENI’S TALON

Historically, Xtheni, the God of flaming sky hated forged weapons so he decided to create a single weapon which he called Xtheni’s Talon. This Talon gifts its user a light that rivals the sun and stamina to defeat all competitors.

This can be used safely by gods and demons since they don’t eat or sleep. In the hands of a mortal, this weapon possesses whoever wields it. The wielder never feels hungry or tired. He can run and fight tirelessly as long as the sword is in his possession. The user might end up having injuries or diseases and die too.

It is said that once every generation, this weapon appears in the hands of a naïve mortal who seeks to use its divine power for his destruction.
